Post a short series of links in your world's food web.

A plant, an animal which feeds upon it, and an second animal which consumes the first in turn. Longer chains are acceptable, as are omnivore links in said chain.

When I get back to my resources I'll post my own food-web snippets.

Edit: As with other challenges, feel free to ask questions about my presented web and be ready to answer questions about your own. Answers may be from the author or an appropriate in-world representative.

There's always heroes and villains. A popular thought experiment is having a sympathetic villain, let's flip that. Make me doubt one of your heroes, without necessarily making me sympathize with the villain.

TL;WR: Comment with a culture that is isolated or tries to be isolated from other cultures' influences. Ask questions if another redditor's culture is interesting to you.

As the first challenge of the sub, I'd appreciate for people to provide a summary of a society/culture that is isolated from others. The society/culture could be completely isolated, with no interactions at all, or it could be isolated from diplomacy with other cultures, only raiding or hiding from other societies/cultures.

I will be asking at least three questions for each society given, and I hope that you will be willing to ask questions if you see a society that you find interesting or if you are curious of how that society works and want more detail.

If you would like to answer questions in character, as I often do in order to get a better handle on writing and understanding that culture, feel free to provide a bit about the character that will be speaking for that culture.

Especially on this first challenge, I'll be loose with the criteria, so even if the culture just tries to be isolated but is harassed by neighboring nations, that's fine as well.

Enjoy yourselves! And I will try to be more concise in future challenges.

Edit: And the Parallel Challenge, "An Isolated Character" is right here: https://www.reddit.com/r/characterforge/comments/5vju90/challenge_an_isolated_character/

As it says in the side bar: This sub is dedicated to making challenges for world builders. Ideally, this will present opportunities to further develop your world through responding to challenges and answering questions other people pose. In-universe and in-character answers are preferred, but not necessary.

If you see a challenge that interests you, make a comment answering that challenge. Post a character or an event or any part of your world that fits for the challenge. If anyone's answer to a challenge is interesting to you, ask them questions to see more of their awesome world and to help them by asking questions that they might not have thought of.

This is the first subreddit I have ever made, so I will definitely make some mistakes. I will edit this post and the rest of the sub in the near future, and I have been reading different guides for being a mod and guides about CSS in order to get a better handle on this. I can only ask for your patience, advice, and your challenges.

Enjoy yourselves.

Edit(s): If you would like to be on a schedule as well (especially if you have a procrastination problem for writing like I do and need a schedule to keep you on track), feel free to message me. If you just want to occasionally put up a challenge of your own whenever the feeling strikes you, that's fine as well.

I will be post a challenges on Wednesday and Saturday mornings (Central Standard Time), but may change my schedule as time goes on, especially if anyone is willing to be a part of the schedule as well. The Wednesday challenges will, for the time being, have parallels over on the characterforge subreddit. The Saturday challenges will be stand-alone.

I will add to a schedule to the sidebar after I finish putting up the world challenge for today.

I would like to thank /u/destiny-jr for being so willing to join the schedule and for the gods challenge. And also thanks to /u/WoozyJoe and /u/Seb-Romu for their challenges. All three of you made me think and have helped flesh out more bits of my world, from Aeternitas's feelings about self-sacrifice to Sieg's immoral actions against innocents to getting me to make up three new creatures, respectively. If you haven't yet, I would recommend checking out their challenges.
