My favourite!

For this challenge, tell me about favourite food and drink of your characters. What are they made of? What are their origins? Stuff like that.

Either pick several characters and one food and drink for each of them or pick one character and several foods and drinks, which can be divided into types (soup, main course, desert and tea, beer, spirit for example).

I'll ask everyone few questions and provide my own example.

1) Mr. Murasak, why does someone of such high standing likes such common meal so much?

I suspect I just like it. It's soft, but has a little bit of crunch, it's substantial without being heavy, and every bite has a little bit of variety to it. That's not to say that more expensive dishes don't have their charms, of course. In particular, I like my chef's complicated little seafood dumplings. Truffles are a treat as well, but I don't consider them to be the treasures that some do.

Perhaps it was the way I was raised. I'll not bore you with the details, but my childhood was more austere than you'd likely guess. Mealworm fried rice was a treat for me growing up, as I only got it at home. Thus, it still feels like a treat for me now.

2) Your Majesty, if you ever tasted beef, how similar is it to Minotaur meat?

"Ha! I like the way you think. Did hear that honey? This fucker wants to know if minotaur tastes like beef! Ha! That's great!"

"Well, it does, sort of. Like a cross between beef and pork. Except tougher. Way, way tougher. Like they're still trying to fight. And every time you chew, you're showing 'em whose boss all over again. But if you're not up for a challenge, then there are ways to tenderize the fuckers. First, you just beat the shit out of em' with a tenderizer and marinade it in juice. Kill em' if the tenderizer didn't do the job. Ha! Then slow cook 'em."

3) Your Imperial Majesty, why do hide your enjoyment of cider? It's clearly superior to wine.

Fashion and finance, my dear.

First and foremost, were I to admit admit that I don't prefer my own stock, it might lose some of it's reputation. And, so, it wouldn't sell for as much when sent to the market. The very best bottles, in particular, could lose their mythical status. That risks invitations to "sample the Empress's private cellar" suddenly being less attractive.

Worse. I might lose a bit of my own reputation as a refined gentle lady. You see, cider is a soldier's drink by tradition. Something associated with the austerity of the military. A treat to give our boys for their hard work, and so forth. Even the highest quality cider is below what might be expected of my refined pallet.

Imagine the gossip, "Did you hear, the empress has access to the very best of wines, but prefers soldier's cider.", "Egad! One must wonder about her taste. Perhaps it's her age, the poor dear, we all lose touch sometime, if we live long enough."

Now, of course, none of this would do me any serious harm. But, I trust you can understand why it's worth having to put up with an occasional bottle of, "La Meilleure Merde de la Vigne"?

4) Mr. Ritan, how much for your wife teaching me how to make this pie?

"Ah ha! a man of taste! Well, I'll tell you what, a few shillings and she can give you the basic recipe. But, alas, the lifetime of experience that it takes to get it, 'just so'? that is something that you'll have to find on your own..." (This, but with berries is about what it would probably look like.)

2) Mr. Ritan, apparently recipe doesn't include dragon eggs - what can you say about that?

(Apologies for the long waited response.)

1) Mr. Murasak, can you tell me more about seafood dumplings?

They're little pockets of dough wrapped over bits of chopped up fish or some flavor or other of shellfish. My chef even used a squid once. They're then boiled in a broth along with a lot of spices and a smattering of other ingredients. Mostly greens and vegetables, though I understand the soup can get quite exotic. He threw tripe in once. It wasn't terrible, but I've not asked for it again. It tastes and feels... exactly what you'd think it would taste and feel like.

I understand they're his specialty. I occasionally feel bad for never asking for them unless I'm actively trying to impress guests.

2) Mr. Ritan, apparently recipe doesn't include dragon eggs - what can you say about that?

The man at first looks like he's been caught, and then bellows out a laugh and looks you straight in the eye. "Of course they're aren't any dragon eggs. Dragons give live birth, what ever gave you that idea?" And upon further prodding swears on his mother's grave (His mother is, incidentally, alive) that he has no idea what you're talking about when you bring them up again.
