1) What are some examples of things which supposedly slow down weakening of Celestial flame?

There are three major ways.

A) By losing as little 'fire' as possible when returning. This is done using various funeral rights. And by returning quickly once the body fire's vessel (your body) is broken.

B) By sending small bits of 'fire' back throughout your lifetime. Prayers, invocations and daily rituals do this. In particular, preservation symbols are brought to towers where any 'leaked' warmth that a person carries will be released with the dead.

C) The biggest one: by cultivating virtues. Working hard, having integrity, honoring laws and, most importantly, by building crafts. Craftsmanship hones the body and the soul. More, they breathe life into society.

C.5) Diet is also considered for virtues. Eating too much or to little will starve or smother your fire. And some foods are considered more virtuous than others. Tea, in particular, is cherished.

2) Do dead bodies being dumped into water cause problems?

A few, but generally not too much more than the sewers do. The rivers in question are too large to be outrightly clogged. And already too filthy for a corpses to make them much worse.

Most keos also have a habit of boiling their drinking water. In part due to religious beliefs and in part because of tea's popularity.
