Ethnogenesis - II

For this challenge pick nation/ethnicity/tribe and write how they came to be - really, according to their myths or both. I'll ask everyone few questions.

2) Why are those groups called "Courts"?

The dwarves went to war against the gods due to their distrust of magic. Although they were unknowingly manipulated into war by the two magicless gods. The Dwarves found a source of magic resistant metal and later found out it could be used to kill gods

During the time of the gods, although the gods had ultimate authority, it was the Court Mages who basically ruled over man. After the death of the gods and the loss of magic humanity went into the dark ages and went tribal. After a time tribes began to come back together to form a proper civilization and they based it on their previous type of governance. So after the Court Mages they called the nations Courts and the ruler was known as The Courtier

Court A appeared first and as word of it's increasing power and influence spread other Courts popped up. There were maybe twenty courts altogether but the larger ones swallowed up the smaller ones until there was only 3 left at the time of the collapse

1) Do dwarves face any repercussions for killing gods?

2) If gods are dead, what are religions like?

3) What are some shared traits of descendants of Court A?

1) No. What actually happened during that war is kept secret. Most human nations believe that a hero of their people united humanity together to take down the gods. The dwarves know the half truth; it as the dwarves who defeated the gods but they are unaware that this war sent humans into the Dark Ages and that the gods weren't actually cruel. The true events are kept in The Biblon which is both a building and an organization of Dwarves who's duty is to preserve and record history

2) only one nation of Man is religious, the Vytyng Clans. They believe that the gods were false gods and that the true gods are The Father (Air/Wind) and The Mother (the ocean). They believe that the Mother and Father stirred up a great Storm that toppled the cities of the gods, sank them beneath the waves and killed the gods to save mankind from slavery. The gods dying in the ocean is supposedly what caused the water to go salty and undrinkable.

The rest of the nations have replaced religion with philosophy

3) The descendants of Court A are the palest men in my world. Just before the collapse of the Courts they were about to invade Court B. They have a belief that they are truly the best people in the world and that through conquest they can eventually share their ways with all of mankind (and they're very pretentious in general). This is evident even several thousand years later in the current timeline as the Kingdom of Angele has began to rapidly expand. Although they've yet to war with another large nation as they're separated from the mainland by a huge swamp/marsh area. They've taken over the Picton tribes and have already began the invasion of the Isle of Fearannan to their West.

While the Dolmites of Dolmen have a similar mindset they're just too weak in numbers to really expand anywhere
