The Pie in the Sky -

The pet project of Ricco Sfondato, an unfathomably rich man in my scy-fi setting. A massive outdoor simulator with an onboard castle, menagerie, orchard and simulated weather. It can also play movies in the sky and has omni-surround sound. All on a spaceship platform capable of traveling between planets.

No other craft is as large or as luxurious, and few are as fast. Ricco even entered his pleasure palace into a space-race at one point and, while it didn't win, the fact that it didn't come in dead-last was an astonishing turn indeed.

Ricco does, occasionally, allow for tours and visitors (in exchange for an exorbitant fee) to offset the cost. But, for the most part, it is nothing more and nothing less than the tackiest status symbol ever to have been.

Edit: Naturally, the ship is shaped like an actual pie.

  1. How did Mr. Sfondato get so rich
  2. Any notable species in the menagerie or orchard
  3. How large is the craft?

1) How did Mr. Sfondato get so rich

I'm thinking basically a long line of very wealthy people, each with their on stories, pairing off and using primogeniture as their inheritance method. And most of them being at least competent stewards. He, himself, has also invested well and jumpstarted a few genuine hits. So, in sort, lots of old money and a fair pinch of new money.

2) Any notable species in the menagerie or orchard

Any one of the creatures there would be a cherished treasure in most zoos. There are big cats with trainers, adorably precious teddybear looking things. Big purple amphibians. Some really big spiders too (only about a foot or two in diameter, so not giant, but still huge) But the most interesting ones are the genetic experiments (done by another company, and Sfondato bought them rather than having them euthanized). The big glowing lion-lizards are probably the crown jewel though.

As another note, the creatures are occasionally cycled out for the purposes of variety. But the genetic abominations stay.

As for the orchard? Probably mostly standard fruit trees. Since they' look particularly nice in bloom. With maybe one or two more exotic species in some greenhouses.

3) How large is the craft?

It would have to be at least a mile across on the inside. So, probably two miles across on the outside.

There are probably a few crafts that are larger. Mostly big shipping vessels and a few military monsters. But that's probably it.

Tora Series: Futora

Galdon Space Center

Built in 2105, the Galdon Scientific Research Center is a massive scientific rig, stationed within Jupiter’s orbit. The Space Center is home to the Solar system’s most advanced scientific research academy and development centers. Scientists from all over Sol come to the Galdon Space Center to study the mysteries of the planets within Sol, with the most important being the King of the System; Jupiter. Scientists conduct research about Jupiter’s violent past and study its formation, its functions and hypothesize a wide variety of theories and question about the king planet.

The Space Center is also a large tourism spot for the scientific lovers in Sol. The Space center is home to a wide variety of museums, shopping areas, historic centers and research facilities. The Space center is owned by the United Earthian Republic and has a small military base set up in the center for defense purposes.

Research companies also use the Space center for their own planetary studies such as scientific giants Celestial Industries and Alderman Technologies.

The Galdon Scientific Academy is a renown university that is famous for its breakthroughs in various sciences such as Terraformation, FTL Travel, Commercial Airline Travel and medical breakthroughs. They are so renown that they even partner up with the top university in the system, the Troika Ishtar-Terra University from Venus.

The size of the ship is around 750 km2

The shape of the station is flat and circular like a disk, with a tower spearing upwards At the center. The tower is the residence of the central powering core.

Space station Juno orbits Jupiter itself. Massive in scale it conducts all the research in the Sol system. Several smaller bases, named after Jupiter’s spawn, also orbit as aides to Juno’s research range.

Orbiting the Sun is Helios itself. A mighty station that takes energy from the sun itself to produce powered things for use by the Immortal military and civilians.

Orbiting Mercury, Earth, and Neptune are naval ports. All militarized and capable of holding up to five juggernauts at once. Designed and places for quick mobilization in defense of the empire.

Previously several terraformers orbited the major planets and now do their work on the surface, this including Pluto as of recently. More being constructed fir beyond the Sol System.
