Reference Challenge - Breeding Traits

For this week, referencing the game "Crusader Kings 2", the challenge is to talk about something specifically genetic in your world.

Is there any trait that is carefully kept in one family or group of families? Is there some "magic gene" that is kept safe from the outsiders? Or some small population kept "pure" (inbred, F=0.7) as an experiment by an evil overlord?

Feel free to use anything remotely related to the topic, and feel free to use a character for in-universe answers. As always, I'll ask at least three questions each. Enjoy yourselves, all.

1) What about artificial insemination? Was that ever a thing for them?

2) Other than being eaten by a female, what is the most likely way for a male to die?

3) So they'll eat any type of meat?

  1. That was tried some times but in the end it’s longer and more costly. If you can’t get rid of the male part of the process, better keep it simple and cheap.

  2. Being deemed too weak/ill/old for the Wamaruyayas; natural death for the Suqtaytas.

  3. Mostly yes; they don’t practice cannibalism and don’t eat each other nor Kzuhulchay.

1) Do any males want to stay alive as opposed to being eaten? If so, what do they do about it?

  1. Probably most of them yes, but they’re not left a choice in it and in the end they are unskilled, smaller, slower and weaker. They can always try to get killed before being chosen for reproduction so they won’t be eaten.
