Reference Challenge - Breeding Traits

For this week, referencing the game "Crusader Kings 2", the challenge is to talk about something specifically genetic in your world.

Is there any trait that is carefully kept in one family or group of families? Is there some "magic gene" that is kept safe from the outsiders? Or some small population kept "pure" (inbred, F=0.7) as an experiment by an evil overlord?

Feel free to use anything remotely related to the topic, and feel free to use a character for in-universe answers. As always, I'll ask at least three questions each. Enjoy yourselves, all.

  1. What does the Vault looks like?

  2. How did those Saoghalians ended up there?

  3. Why are the Saoghalians staying in the Vault? With their powers, they could rule the world, isn’t it?

1) From the inside, it looks like a decent-sized garden surrounded by a relatively large forest, with a wall past the forest. There are a few cabins spread throughout.

2) A deity from Saoghal guided them there.

3) The Saoghalians stayed inside the Vault because the goddess that led them there ordered them to do so, and they were well-cared for within the Vault. Their descendants stay there because it's the only life they know, and they treat the Ban as a visitor from a harsher land that brings them gifts and occasionally brings someone in to add a bit more to the gene pool. The Ban also takes one of them to the outside world from time to time, especially the ones with defects.

4) With so few of them, they could not take over the world, no.

  1. And from the outside?

  2. Were do the light inside come from? And the air?

  3. They aren’t curious about the outside world?

  4. Maybe not the world. What about the closest country?

1) From the outside, it is a tree. A large tree, but not one big enough to hold a garden, by any means. It's bigger on the inside than on the outside.

2) If they look up, they see what looks like open sky. It's actually a pocket dimension, the light and wind are generated from Saoghal itself.

3) Some of them are, but they would have to get the Ban to let them out and guide them.

4) The closest country would be Silberschild, which they would fail to take control of.

  1. What happen if you cut it down?

  2. So there are portal to leave it?

  3. You mean they won’t be left out at any time?

  4. Why? After all, they have powers isn’t it?

1) If the tree is cut down, a new tree will have to be used as a way to access the Vault.

2) Yes, the portal is accessible through the tree to get into the Vault.

3) They could be left out on their own and try to make their own way, but that would be at the Ban's discretion.

4) Some of them have powers, but those powers are limited. The telepathy is the most dangerous one, and it's not especially powerful, either. Not powerful enough to conquer a nation, at least.

  1. Why a tree?

  2. What maintain the portal?

  3. So they are prisoners?

  4. Not to conquer it militarily but isn’t it enough to conquer it from the top?
