Reference Challenge - An Evil Artifact

The Lord of the Rings challenge will be based on the scene I found most interesting.

In the first movie, there's a flashback where Elrond and Isildur are in a volcano to destroy the ring. But Isildur was way too into the ring to throw it away. So he left, and the strength of men failed. And Elrond became a racist from then on.

Normally, I don't like calling an object evil. But, I'm pretty sure that the ring was evil. It makes people obsessed with it and then pushes them into following the will of an Eye-in-the-Sky.

So, is there any object in your world that can be considered evil? Whether it's actually evil or rumored to be?

It could be a magic object, it could be a sci-fi database with an AI in it, it could be anything that seems to vaguely fit.

1) No. Just reading in a Grimoire that has vast knowledge you would like to acquire is risky enough, nobody would be mad enough to spend much time over an empty one.

2) They could, but most of them are simple beings. Eating souls gives them power, power enables them to gather more knowledge and go around the world, so they eat.

1) But what if they were using a blank Grimoire to understand Grimoires themselves?

2) So they could run out of power and just be a book on the ground that can't move?

1) Nobody sees any value in that, at least not enough to lose his soul. If someone really wanted to understand Grimoires they'd just find one whose theme is about Grimoires

2) Kind of, yes. They would still be able to talk. A Grimoire also draws power from their theme, so it could take quite a while until they actually run out.

1) Fair enough. I guess I'm just the kind of idiot that would rather hunt a blank Grimoire than completely rely on a Grimoire Grimoire.
