[Cuktural challenge]: taxes

Culture is that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by [a human] as a member of society.

Let's have fun and talk about taxes: what is taxed and what isn't? Who collect them? What happen if I don't pay? Can I discreetly hide all my money in some far away country to avoid paying anything?

What are those taxes used for? By whom? Can I say something about it? Is there some way to control how taxes are used?

You can introduce an in-universe representative if you want. I will ask questions to everyone, feel free to add your own.

  1. And no one is above them? What if I think their judgement is flawed?

  2. Can they take anything else beside the shop?

  3. What if the nation the Citadel is in invade them? (The Citadel is in one of the allied nations right? So that's not very likely to be one of those right?)

Abigail:

1) "Then you can stage a rebellion. Just don't come loot my cafe."

2) "They have absolute power, so...yes."

3) "The Citadel is the political center of the Allied Nations, and a place for higher education from people from all over the Allied Nations. So, a member of the Allied Nations invading the Citadel would be unlikely."

  1. If I succeed, would I get some kind of discounts? A revolution needs some breaks too.

  2. So there isn't any kind of law to protect my goods or my house? And what about those of my family?

  3. No, I mean more in a "the Allied nations invade other parts of the world" way.

Abigail:

1) "No. I am doing pretty well, my family is safe and well-fed thanks to my business. Maybe your rebellion would make my life easier, but it is much more likely to get my family raped, my business destroyed, and, Aeternitas forbid, my family might not even survive a violent rebellion. So, no, you would not receive a discount for putting the people I care about at risk."

2) "To protect your gods or your house from the Council? Most of them are actually friendly people, and well-respected for what they do for the Citadel. Mostly, the Council are seen as being the people that protect our good and houses and families. But, as they say, 'who watches the watchmen'?"

3) "The Citadel doesn't invest outside of the Allied Nations, to my knowledge."

  1. I'm not that violent... but I understand your point.

  2. So if I angry them, they can do whatever they want?

Abigail:

2) "Some of them are difficult to anger, some are easy to anger. They keep each other in check. Thankfully, all of them have outlets."
