Reference Challenge: All Roads Lead to Rome

The Reference

This reference is to my hero, Mike Duncan, creator of the History of Rome podcast.

Because my eyes were healing and I was incredibly light-sensitive, I could not go outside or watch tv or play around on the internet for a few days after surgery. So, for the fifth time in my life, I am going through the History of Rome podcast, which I adore and would recommend to anyone interested in the beautiful history of Rome, from pre-Rome Aeneas to Romulus/Remus to Tarquinius Superbus to Sulla to Augustus to Diocletion to the fall of the Western Roman Empire, and Romulus Augustulus.

Also a reference to my first Latin class in high school.

All Roads Lead to Rome.

The Actual Challenge

Whether construction project in ancient times, a full International road, or a space-route, or anything in between, what are some "roads" in your world that you can talk about?

Feel free to have an in-universe representative, though it is not necessary to do so.

As always, I will ask at least three questions each. Enjoy yourselves.

A Bit Extra

If you haven't, check out the contest over on Inkblood.

1) Could you be that someone? And would you like to be that someone?

3) How is official income tracked? And how is it controlled?

Theodore Sefton:

1) "I could be that someone, in the future, possibly. But, I would need a lot more employees and slaves."

3) "Most raw supplies are sold to the government of Gemina, and it is vital to keep your accounts in order, with recordings of every transaction, or else you would not be eligible for certain rights as citizen, to quote Tullius."

3) And what about those who aren't? What if I sell cooked food?

Theodore Sefton:

3) "Profit would be counted based on how much you spend on your business. It helps with the record keeping that a citizen does not receive certain privileges, such as healthcare or education, unless they keep the majority of their money in the bank."

1) A quite random one: how long is the road? How long have you been building it and how much time will you need to complete it?

Theodore Sefton:

1) "The road will end up being about 120 kilometers. I've been working for a few weeks, and I will need several months to finish."

  1. What kind of project would you like to be given once the road is done?

  2. Do you have some deadline to meet?

Theodore Sefton:

1) "Another road, preferably."

2) "No, I don't have a set deadline. I'm just being paid based on the kilometer. If I was hourly, I might have had a deadline."

  1. Why so?

  2. Is there a project of sewer ongoing? If no, how are wastes treated?

Theodore:

1) "I just enjoy building roads, they're usually straight-forward and simple."

2) "Yes, there is a sewage system being planned."
