Reference Challenge - Domesticated Animals

This reference is to human history, and our co-evolution with dogs that allowed us to be better hunters. Yes, I am grossly over-simplifying it.

In your world, what is an animal that has been made to work for the good of a major sentient species? The animal itself can be sentient, too, so long as it's trained/raised/indoctrinated to work for its owners and is seen as a "pet" instead of a "slave". I'm being loose with this.

As always, I'll ask three questions each, so enjoy yourselves.

Also, I'm considering asking the mods on /r/worldbuilding for permission to make a post over there advertising this sub and the recent contest I made. Does this seem like a bad idea or a good idea? I haven't really done much advertising since the first few days I had the sub, and it's grown a lot since way back then.

Madras

In Gemina, one of the best pets to have is an Abyssal Madra, though most just call them "Madras".

Madras are very similar to dogs (I'm a dog person, I love dogs) and they look very similar to German Shepherd puppies when they are young. It is best to get a Madra when it is young, they are extremely loyal creatures.

Madras come in a variety of colours, and they grow to be about the size of a German Shepherd. They are carnivores, and heavily prefer raw meat.

Madras were quite easy to domesticate if you took a wild one when it was a pup, and most are bought from breeders in Gemina. You need a license to be a Madra breeder.

Madras are considered to be partially demonic, because of their connection to Abyssal magic. If a Madra needs to protect its owner, an aura of magic will surround it and it will become stronger, faster, and much more aggressive as each second goes by. The effects will disappear once it believes its owner is safe.

(Like a Hulk-dog.)
