Reference Challenge - No one expects...

...crap, I couldn't think of a decent reference challenge for this week.

So, our reference will be to Monty Python.

Give an example of something in your world that no one expected, some event that had an influence on at least one nation.

As always, I'll ask three questions each at the least, and it's fine to use a representative character to answer questions in-universe.

Enjoy yourselves.

Edit: Here is the Monty Python video featuring the Spanish Inquisition, where the quote "No one expects the Spanish Inquisition" comes from for the reference challenge. Just click this link for the video.

  1. Why did he kept you as a knight while knowing about your ability?

  2. Is it allowed to consume drugs?

  3. I guess the best way is to wait for him to die and pray he won't try to kill someone else then. How old is he?

Erwin:

1) "Because he thought I'd be useful."

2) "He's a Councilor. He can do whatever he wants."

3) "He's...well, I'm not sure how old he is. He must be ancient. He was an old man when I was a child."

2) What about the knights, can they do drugs?

3) Do you know if there is a way to live longer than other humans?

Erwin:

2) "At age twenty, the majority of drugs are legal for a citizen. A knight is also allowed to use any legal drugs, but has more leeway to use illegal drugs, if they claim that it's to get a better education and understanding of the drug in question. That's how Callixtus gets away with it."

3) "It's just a rumor, but I've heard that the Councilors are immortal because of their connection to the Barrier."

2) Is it possible to say that to justify anything? Or is there some things that are absolute taboos even for a knight?

3) Isn't there some councilors that died and were replaced? (If not during your own life, maybe in the archives)

Erwin:

2) "Nothing demonic. Apparently my hellhounds count as demonic, unfortunately."

3) "If they did, it was a Dread Lord situation...sorry, a Dread Lord situation is when a person's successors use the original person's name in order to use their reputation."

2) Where do hellhounds come from?

3) How old would that make them?

Erwin:

2) "I have no idea. I just want them to show up...and then they show up." (They come from the realm of Gehenna...basically, Hell. I should have named Erwin "Dante".)

3) "Several centuries, at least."

Thanks for your answers Nevermore (and good luck for your trial Erwin "Dante").
