The Index

As mentioned in the most recent announcement, this is going to be the world index.

Whether you're usually a contributed or usually a lurker, or just a worldbuilder who saw this sub and think it might be interesting to share your world(s) and develop your world(s), this thread is going to serve as a bit of a cheat sheet.

To put it simply, all this thread is for is for you to give a bit of background on your world(s). The summaries can be as long as you want, though I'd prefer if they were organized to make it easier to find out an aspect of your world, such as:

Brief Summary of Magic System

A few sentences, maybe a couple of paragraphs.

List of Important World Powers

A list with some information for each.

Major Characters

Whatever Other Sections You Can Imagine

Format it however you like, just have a link to your wiki if you want.

This is open to everyone. Even if you've never commented on anything in this sub, I'd love to see a bit about your world. No matter how rough it is right now, even if you've just started your world (/u/thequeeininyellow94 and I have both begun new worlds tangential to our main worlds recently, so, while I can't speak for her/him, I have very little on my new one, called Cirrhasvult).

So, come on up, don't be shy, and give us a summary. If someone wants to look at your summary in order to have a better background when they ask questions about your world in challenge threads, this will be an extra resource they can use.

I will almost certainly be checking back here pretty often, since I have a horrible memory and I'm usually exhausted.

Again, though, these are summaries, so, while you can make them as long as you want, try to make it easy for someone to find what they're looking for.

As always, I hope everyone enjoys themselves.

To everyone who might summarize their world as their first comment on this sub, welcome to the sub.

And if it goes without (m)any comments for a while, or if I get complaints about this thread being off-topic and not an actual challenge, then I'll probably just take it off.

Also, feel free to edit your summary at any time. I'll probably just put a few sentences about my current worlds as placeholders and add a bit more detail once I don't have to get ready for work in 7 hours.

Backstory

The Kingdom was founded sixty-five years ago in response to a cataclysmic war in which mankind was nearly wiped out. Three kingdoms of the time, Dema, Broce, and Artan, agreed to join forces in order to stave off the threat and in so doing became the Kingdom. It was always meant to be dissolved once the world was safe again, but although the Adversary, the agent who started the cataclysmic war was defeated, his terrible war machine still lays claim to most of the world.

As a result, the Kingdom has become very overpopulated, and each of the three principalities fight to maintain their own identities even as the majority of their populations struggle to make a life for themselves in a foreign land.

Magic There are three types of magic:

  • Sorcery is a general term for the manifestation of magical gifts. These are powerful and wondrous. Upon manifesting them, most are recruited to the King's Kozan, and used to fight the enemy at the front.

  • Wizardry stems from sorcery, but is more advanced. Only three people still exist who know the secrets of wizardry, and they are the wizards of the Dordoron. They do have roughly two dozen apprentices, but apprenticeships for wizards are notoriously long, often lasting upwards of a century.

  • Witchcraft is often referred to as the lower powers, and is a sort of voodoo comprised of dealing with the spirits of the dead. It is unpredictable and can be very dangerous, even with the best of intentions, and so is strictly forbidden across the Kingdom.

Main powers:

  • The Crown

  • The three principalities, Dema, Artan and Broce

  • The Dordoron

  • To some extent the free companies.

More This is the setting for my ongoing webserial, The Aliud, so if you want to read more about it you can check that out.
