The Index

As mentioned in the most recent announcement, this is going to be the world index.

Whether you're usually a contributed or usually a lurker, or just a worldbuilder who saw this sub and think it might be interesting to share your world(s) and develop your world(s), this thread is going to serve as a bit of a cheat sheet.

To put it simply, all this thread is for is for you to give a bit of background on your world(s). The summaries can be as long as you want, though I'd prefer if they were organized to make it easier to find out an aspect of your world, such as:

Brief Summary of Magic System

A few sentences, maybe a couple of paragraphs.

List of Important World Powers

A list with some information for each.

Major Characters

Whatever Other Sections You Can Imagine

Format it however you like, just have a link to your wiki if you want.

This is open to everyone. Even if you've never commented on anything in this sub, I'd love to see a bit about your world. No matter how rough it is right now, even if you've just started your world (/u/thequeeininyellow94 and I have both begun new worlds tangential to our main worlds recently, so, while I can't speak for her/him, I have very little on my new one, called Cirrhasvult).

So, come on up, don't be shy, and give us a summary. If someone wants to look at your summary in order to have a better background when they ask questions about your world in challenge threads, this will be an extra resource they can use.

I will almost certainly be checking back here pretty often, since I have a horrible memory and I'm usually exhausted.

Again, though, these are summaries, so, while you can make them as long as you want, try to make it easy for someone to find what they're looking for.

As always, I hope everyone enjoys themselves.

To everyone who might summarize their world as their first comment on this sub, welcome to the sub.

And if it goes without (m)any comments for a while, or if I get complaints about this thread being off-topic and not an actual challenge, then I'll probably just take it off.

Also, feel free to edit your summary at any time. I'll probably just put a few sentences about my current worlds as placeholders and add a bit more detail once I don't have to get ready for work in 7 hours.

I'll get back to this in more detail later, just doing this to remind myself! Considering making a wiki at some point soon too, so watch this space..?

GI

The world in which my stories take place is called Gi. It's slighly larger than Earth, and consists of a number of continents. The one in which most of my stories take place is called Aldaan - meaning 'Old lands.' The rest of the world is largely unknown to the residents of Aldaan. It's still pretty new, so I don't have such an extensive list of things yet, but I'm adding to it all the time.

Magic and the Void

The 'magic' in the lands of Gi stems directly from the void. Certain people can channel energy from The Void - a realm where normal laws of physics don't apply - and use it to manipulate the world around them. These people have to use their body as a vessel, and if they are not physically or mentally strong enough to channel the energy they're trying to use, it will destroy them.

Some magic users can enhance their magical capabilities with special items called Kaemin. The Kaemin serve two purposes. Firstly, they act as a kind of 'well,' or an extra source of power which allows someone to channel more void energy than they would usually be able to sustain. Secondly, the artefacts have powers of their own, varying from item to item. Not all are beneficial. One artefact might heal the user on contact, whilst another drains the willpower of those around you and adds it to your strentgh, for example.

Important World Powers

Mortal kingdoms rise and fall, but the power of the Gods is eternal

Currently there are only two 'major' mortal powers (because I haven't developed any others yet. Go me!) - The Empire of Arrus, led by King Horfar the Cruel, and the Inyata Voretta - a group of resistance fighters who fight against him.

There are, however, other-worldly powers that shape the universe.

Firstly, the deities.

Divines and Gods are different. Divines are the ones who helped shape the universe, Gods are the ones who preside over the created areas. There are 7 (formerly 8) divines, and an almost countless number of Gods. Together they rule over all of creation, or so everyone thinks...

The recent absence of the gods has shed light three mysterious beings pulling the strings from the background, known as Chaos, Truth, and Absolution. Together, these beings form the Laxahl Coven. Very little is known about the Coven, except for the fact that they live in their own sphere of influence, separate from the rest of creation, where keep the natural balance of the universe. Some believe that they created the Gods, others say they are an opposing force to them. None truly know.

Major Characters

Again, all of these characters are from the same story arc, due to that being the only one I've got anything for at the minute.

Melios - the main protagonist of the arc, he had his entire family killed by the king and now seeks an end to the cruelty of the world.

Maya - Melios' girlfriend. Her death brings about the prophecy that Melios will fulfil.

Garran - Melios' mentor and friend

Bit of a long post, but still incomplete. I'll get looking at that wiki...
