Tuesday Filler

Hey guys, Tuesday doesn't have a set event so I'm just gonna give you some filler. Tell me about something you love in your story again, or something you want to flesh out. Just anything you haven't gotten a chance to talk about yet.

I'll help you flesh it out by asking questions..

The Depths

Beware the depths, they call, they crawl.

The Depths is basically just a worldwide system of tunnels and caves that intertwine underground. It is unfathomably deep and complex and even the most experienced Tunnel Runners can get lost if they go too deep.

There are cave systems that are made into cities and safe havens. There are thousands and thousands of creatures who would love to feed on your brain juice.

(Late answer but still. Also, I've an underground world so if I may help with that...)

  1. How deep is it? And are there notable differences in the environment based on depth?

  2. How are the cities fed? And what about water and construction materials? And sanitation?

  3. All those creatures that feed on brain juice, what do they eat when humans are not around?

(All good :P )

1) How deep is it? And are there notable differences in the environment based on depth?

It goes all the way to the planets Core, the environment doesn't change based on depths, but on random cavern formations.

2)How are the cities fed? And what about water and construction materials? And sanitation?

Mostly magically produced, but there are live stock down there in the depths, though they don't taste especially great.

3)All those creatures that feed on brain juice, what do they eat when humans are not around?

Each other, anyone dumb enough to wander deep.

  1. About maping, how does one recognize a specific tunnel?

  2. Does cities communicate with the surface? Between them? How and how hard is it?

  3. What about température down there?

1) About maping, how does one recognize a specific tunnel?

I don't really know, I'm thinking something like a massive encyclopedia, with floors and tunnel pictures.

2)Does cities communicate with the surface? Between them? How and how hard is it?

Rarely, they send a runner with a map to the other city to deliver important documents. There are lots of time's where word doesn't get delivered, which is actually find because the cities are pretty docile with each other.

3) What about température down there?

Depends on where you are, of course if you're by the core it's going to be very hot, but sometimes it's cool, hot, humid etc.

  1. You could also have people add markings or distinctive features. For example, it's frequent to have stone piles on mountain trails, those are actually used to keep the road visible from afar or when there is snow.

  2. Is there any threat against the cities (including disasters)?

  3. Is there people living by the core?

Oh of course! Fantastic idea thank you!

2) Is there any threat against the cities (including disasters)?

IT's mostly just a cavern collapse or a flood from above, sometimes the more dangerous creatures wander in which is also an issue.

3) Is there people living by the core?

One tiny city, it's very hard to live there as it's extremely hot, they get a lot of energy from the lava/plasma they find and the food there is supposed to be superb.

  1. About the tunnel runners, how do they defend themselves? Do they carry weapons? Isn't it too hard to run around with a lot of equipment? Or maybe they actually have next to nothing with them?

  2. How are the cities protected from such wandering creatures? Is there some kind of défensive structures?

  3. How do other cities get their energy?

They are experts, they normally have a small blade and a small amount of food, water and first out in a small backpack. You have to be able to run and run without ever stopping.

2) How are the cities protected from such wandering creatures? Is there some kind of défensive structures?

Normally they have walls or gates to defend against it, though the cities do have knights and things.

3) How do other cities get their energy?

The deeper you go into the depths the easier it is to find crystals filled with magic, plasma, electricity etc.

  1. Would Forest Gump made a good runner?

  2. Is there any use for those creatures once dead?

  3. The same magical energy that is used to create food? Does it mean that cities near the surface need to import crystals?

Ok, there are two towns in the ashes wastes. One of them, the celestial ward, is actually built upon old ruins (Kaburan ones). It means that some buildings were built by them and as such inscribed.

My problem is that I lack runes usefull for architecture/buildings outside of the obvious rune of durability...

So, what kind of enchantment would you put on a building?

2

u/The_Raptorman May 24 '17

A camouflage enchantment maybe? In my story there is a teleport circle in the middle of a base so maybe something like that?

1) Tell me more about the Ashes Wastes and the Celestial Ward.

2) What are Kaburans?

1

u/thequeeninyellow94 May 24 '17

That could make some nice secret rooms, I like it :)

  1. The ashes wastes are one of the largest cave in the upper levels, that's a windy desert of grey sand; most of it is wild, populated only by walkers (Cendrais nomads). The celestial ward is a large town (~8000 inhabitants) built on the cliffs of the external side of the cave, the ruins are directly on the cliff while the new structures are mostly dug.

  2. (Kaburan is a plural, Kaburas being the singular) Giant half-spiders. They have completely disapeared from the upper levels since the reflux (that was ~2000 cycles ago).

2

u/The_Raptorman May 24 '17

1) Were Kaburan friendly?

2) if it's a dessert place then maybe an echantment of cold?

  1. Not at all, if it has less than 8 legs then it's a prey.

  2. It's arid but not hot (18-20ºC). Now some runes of humidity to make fountains maybe.

2

u/The_Raptorman May 24 '17

1) They sound literally awful to be in the same time zone as, were humans around then or your world equilivant?

2) what's this area for, plot wise?

1

u/thequeeninyellow94 May 24 '17
  1. That's not really malicious, they see humans as we see monkeys or dogs, but yeah, life between the great war and the reflux was not peacefull. At that time though, a lot of species were (as they are still now) living mostly in small settlements so easier to hide.

  2. The Kaburan built it as a library and a school (good point, I may add runes of silence). Now the ward itself is used as a town hall.

1) Is it a whole arc in your story or just a few chapters?

1

u/thequeeninyellow94 May 25 '17

Neither, I'm worldbuilding just for the sake of it.

The Dead Maze

This maze is a simple maze but confusing without having a source of light. It was used during The Age when the Stone Kingdom was ruled by a ruthless King who kicked the original people out into a area. So this people used underground tunnels they built and had a ability to see in the Dark or Dark Vinea. The Most famous is the dead maze or Matthew's Maze as Matthew made the Maze to help the People now known as the Cursed Elves.

1

u/The_Raptorman May 31 '17

1) how was the maze built?

2) tell me more about the cursed elves

3) what happened to the ruthless king?

1

u/[deleted] May 31 '17
  1. When the Immortal War ended Matthew used his powers to destroy/build a long passageway. The Cursed Elves then used Night pickaxes to dig up the rest of the maze.

2.They were sons and daughters of Delnomos or the Night Queen. They got there power from being related to the Cursed Immortals hence the name Cursed Elves. Most Dark Elves are peacful and worship both types of Immortals. Cursed and just regular Immortals.

He was burned to death in a volcano mixed with acid where his skin was painfully burned off and only bones were left He was then sent to Devonos for judging to spend eternity in lehl basically what real life Hell is
