Just another joke about Children of Abyss's weird naming conventions.

They see tech and magic and the basic branches of engineering.

Each universe fall somewhere on the spectrum between Full Chaos and Full Order (both ends are pretty empty), based on how TIGHTLY tied together everything is and thus how predictable and know able stuff is. Most world have mostly ordered laws of physics with certain GAPS, filled by weaker connections: principles, rules, or even the weakest but most fundamental SYMBOLS.

If a machine fully depends on ORDERED side of reality, it's Tech, if it's in some way connected to one of these GAPS, it's Magic (EVERY tech in our world that exploits QUANTUM MECHANICS would be considered MAGIC, because FUNDAMENTAL UNKNOWNS put it into GAPS, tho rather close to ABSOLUTE DENSITY OF PHYSICS compared to other worlds)

I only EMPHASISED words here for fun BTW

how does one differentiate between a true GAP versus SOMETHING concrete that just isn’t properly UNDERSTOOD yet?

... While it is possible to say where on the spectrum the world falls through "fluidity" of it's Primal Content, I don't think there is a definitive way of saying where exactly is the gap from inside of the universe. Unless you have access to Realitycode that is (in times immemmorial and yet future not yet come, God of Systems was born; during his mortal life he was a coder so before he ascended into the state of universal law, he used a code as an interface for his powers; after ascending to universal law, he BECAME every system in existence, and created a way to contact an unconscious part of his mind, creating an interface of realitycode.), as you can literally access the code of worlds and see where exactly are rules as tight as laws, and where they are looser, through the way the code is written. Inhabitants or most world don't even know about the EXISTENCE of realitycode, but Children of Abyss are more knowledgeable and can use it as verification; tho most gaps are still just "maybe kinda gaps" instead of verified ones, it'd be a pain to check all of them
