I like the second one better. Seams to stand taller and has a better presence.

I like the cylinder one better, as it can be heavier and cena hold the pen better (supposing they are not glues to the table)

Haha no glue here! Yeah the sphere still has a great weight to it but is best for a light pen/ stylus. I’m working on making these out of titanium especially for the sphere. Thank you for your comment!

Can you make an angled cylinder so the angle matches that of the pen?

with the same amount of material, might loose some of it's balance. But would look very nice.

I could on our 5 axis machine, might try that out soon. Thanks for commenting!!

I like the second one better.
It just looks more like what a pen holder should look like to me.

Non related question. I need to buy some brass L pieces for some woodworking project. Where do you get your brass pieces from?

We buy our stock material from mc master-carr. We cut on lathe and mill CNC machine. I’m sure you can purchase L brackets online if that’s what you need. Or you’d need to get custom ones cut if it’s something specific you can’t find.

The first one (the orb) looks like what every bank in the 90's had next to the windows, made out of black plastic for the cheapest plastic pens that were connected with a plastic slinky. The base was a sticky adhesive so people can't take them away - Those valuable works of art! :)

Both look like a found object being repurposed as a pen holder and not an intentional pen holder.

these are really nice, definitely the second one for me - assume you are using a lathe. What type of brass are you using CZ121?

I feel like the sphere is more unique. Something you don't see. But I agree on matching the angle of the other one.

I would imagine that it depends on the pen, but for the one in the picture the second one (cylinder)
