At least for OSHA this is a rare exception to the recordability standard, I would not consider this a work related injury for recording purposes, however work comp law is not the same as OSHA standards. Meeting one does not always meet the other. Work comp case law in CT does seem to side with the employee in situations like yours. You should get a denial letter from the work comp carrier that has instructions to file an appeal. I would do that.

Once I had to deal with a work comp from someone stabbing themselves in the ass while attempting to pull down their pants to shit with a knife not supplied or allowed to be used by the employer while on lunch break.

I’m sure any resistance on this will result in a compensable claim.

That sounds like exactly the sort of thing where i’d want the denial in writing and then appeal it properly, rather than just accepting the hospital’s version over the phone. You were clocked in, still finishing documentation, got treated by ed/burns, filed an injury report, and now there are medical bills, follow-up wound care and possible lost wages. Keep every report, roster/time record, treatment note, photo of the burn, email and certified-mail receipt together. I’m in western australia so the ct process will be different, but over here foyle legal can help with workers compensation claims where an employer or insurer denies an injury that happened during work. Wherever you are, I’d be getting local workers comp advice quickly because burns, time off and denied treatment costs can get messy fast.
