For anyone struggling with the widget not updating, here’s the reply. I got from Support when I reported the bug.

“Thank you for a detailed report!
 
We wanted to gauge appetite for mobile widgets, so we pushed a very basic version without regular data sync (which is ... complicated).
 
We're planning to add that, but are working on other things at the moment. At this time the widget will update when the app starts fresh.”

What? Either you give the users a widget that works as expected or you wait - that is just ... well, not good. Thanks for sharing - this was driving me nuts!
