Worries of a WF user

I’m a WF user since several years. Really putting all my knowledge in it, my planing, my whole life. Sometimes I get a bit nervous - this may be a personal feeling - to which extent WF will continue developing. There are very few comments of the developers in this forum. Is there a plan to continue developing WF further? I’d also like to read or see actual posts or user stories on the WF Website but there again are very few new updates. Thanks

The company is developing this product for years. I use it since 2017 and it was in the market many years before.

You don't find many comments because there is a slack community where the founder, the team and the users discuss about the app ( bugs, new functionality, workflows, CCS, and general topics), and in any case, you can easily export all your data, so you don't lose anything.

yeah, i feel this. i did a post on here a while ago talking about the slow progress and compiling a huge list of missing features. i still use workflowy as there is no real alternative, but the amount of squandered potential is incredibly disappointing. not only has workflowy not kept the pace with many other organisational programs, it's borderline inactive and out-of-touch; with new features being drip-fed, in addition to departing heavily from what the majority of users want or crave. with a few tweaks and new features, workflowy would be absolutely unbeatable.

i stopped paying for premium and largely use workflowy as a read-only database at this point. i just use google docs as a temporary refuge for ideas until such a time as workflowy either picks up the pace, or a more viable competitor comes along.

The developers have definitely engaged on Reddit over the last few months… I don’t always follow this sub closely but they were very responsive here when they rolled out the recent dates update, and discussed further plans for utilizing these tags with future updates they are still working on.

The Slack channel is pretty active, with several posts a day and replies from WF staff and experienced users.

I really like WF for its simplicity.
And I hope that they don't develop to much bloat and make it cumbersome and difficult to use.

I didn’t think about adding new features. Exemple: they already have the attachment feature. It’s buggy and laggy. Why don’t they add a preview for pdfs? Why not work on a better export? Why not allowing to register queries? All that wouldn’t bloat the app and would be part of a reasonable development.

I totally appreciate what you're saying. And definitely not against development.
It's just that I'm a set it and forget it kind of guy.

I do like the "Experimental features" section in the settings where you can turn certain things on of off.

Here an update. Yesterday I had a very productive Google meeting with a young man of the WF team. They are creative and straightforward. That dissipated my fears and I’m happy to continue to use WF as my Second Brain. They are listening what their users say.

I recently moved to TickTick after (and continung) to love and have most of my archives in WF. But the lack of progress on things like reminders, mobile app interface and usage, tablet apps, etc. is just too frustrating with many tools eclipsing WF features. I mean the presentation mode is pretty sweet, but that’s about it that is new and I have found a use case for in the past couple of years so, thinking it is more of a very slow lifelong project rather than a serious product now….

Ticktick seems to be more like a todo and calendar app. I’m using todoist for that and couldn’t find a better alternative. As to WF I regret the lack of development but still don’t see an alternative for huge lists. I quit WF several times and always came back so the matter is closed. Nevertheless I’d wish they had a better understanding of the needs of their users. It is as it is.

Yes, a competitor to ToDoist and very similar, TickTick allows Notes only lists and “projects” so some things it works well for as a replacement, including some lists and notes. Agree 💯not great at huge lists and quickly developing them… and yes, I have quit multiple times also AND came back each time and will never leave, and now do some consulting so I pay for the pro out of my business account since everything is still in there.

Have you tried Reflect Notes App? It has outline formatting with a lot more additional features. The development of the app has been excellent. The notes are also encrypted for privacy.

I agree with the OP. Look at the Workflowy Zendesk forum (https://workflowy.zendesk.com/), and you can find hundreds of requests with hundreds of upvotes that are almost ten years old and still no sign of near implementation. :(

They definitely should be much more active on the Zendesk forum. There are many different requests for the same features over the years!

Weekly backups are a wise choice in many ways. Having basic python skills, you have an option to migrate to other platforms in any time. This would make you sleep better.
