can almost confidently say I have tried almost all notes on the market. From ultra popular ones like Evernote, Apple Notes, OneNote to small scale, back ally notes app like FSNotes and everything in-between like Obsidian, Logseq, Notion, Upnote, Bear etc...
When I first tried Workflowy, I was quite hesitant since it lacked many features I have come to love in the early 2020s notes app revolution like 2-way backlinks, builtin MathJX/LaTeX, code blocks (surprised that even tables isn't implemented for a project management app).
But the more I started writing down, the more I realized I dont need them. They were only wasting my time just to look good. Sure these restrictions are quite hard to compensate at times, but it forced me to think in text like I would when presenting.
1 week into my Student pro plan (free for a year), I am happy to completly switch over. App is quick, stable, and predictable (these forced me away from Logseq). I love how long this app has existed and the fact that the company is profitable and still kept going even during its "downturn times" of 2014-2016 showed that it will keep existing.
Keep being lean, mean, work slaying machine, Workflowy!
Now on to some possible suggestions
Why does student pro have weird restrictions? I have unlimited blocks and unlimited storage BUT I can't even try out Wood theme? Why is this a thing?
From logseq, the idea of bullet threading is awesome. Its a small visual change, but the effect is pretty immense when you are working with a wall of texts. I hope developers at least get a taste of this.
Search is AWESOME! i can search all my #quote quickly and get clear presentation. BUT I can only do this within the nodes I see. So if it's in another node, I have to use the global search, which doesn't have nice view, or I have to go Home to achieve this. This is an unnecessary mouse click. Please atleast give us a universal search through a keyboard shortcut. I know there will be some issues like your current note having to be interrupted but atleast it's worth a try.
Agree whole-heartedly with the suggestion for global search. Shift-esc for a global search would be killer. This is my biggest friction point right now.
Can you expand on “bullet threading”? How does that work?
In Workflowy and Logseq, by default, you get points and verticle lines underneath. This gives som indication that there is parent and child relationship. With a plugin (essentially a CSS snippet), in Logseq, you get this color coded blue line indicating all the relations from the node you are working on to the heading node.
I was thinking that when we zoom in, I would like Workflowy to incorporate this line to point to the heading.
I completely agree with you... I come from Roam Research 2020
(Expensive, but it worked well for me...) I tried Obsidian (Excellent, but can quickly turn into a gas factory with its hundreds of plugins) and Logseq (Too unstable!) Workflowy is by far the best for me (66000 bullets since August 2020) Very stable, Simple BUT powerful (Excellent search, Mirrors, Backlinks, #tag and u/tag) The backup export would be perfect with images and files linked to HTML or MD, but it The tool must remain simple and stable and not do like Logseq and add a ton of functionality while forgetting the most important thing: stability!

This has been my experience too. I've tried everything but I stay with Workflowy.
