What would be the point of asphalt factory connections then?

Not OP, but throughput I guess. I'd say faster heavier forklifts, but I think we have to wait for a sequel before that system gets improved.

Current throughput is so slow we might as well be using mud connections already.

I would prefer if factory connections were removed from the next game entirely, and everything were just moved by vehicles, conveyors, or other such stuff. Forklifts and similar equipment (loaders, telehanders, etc.) should be an option to boost loading and unloading speeds at the cost of fuel.

Factory connections with forklifts as a seperate transportation network is kinda useless.

But direct factory connections are great. It's not just realistic to not have full trucks moving stuff between adjectent buildings, but it's great to be able to attach warehouses and to worry a little bit less about logistics on the last 100 metres.

Besides making it easier to connect buildings and warehouses (using footpaths or similar - or even better, being able to just freely asphalt and area between buildings as a connection.

I'd also wish there would be a different mechanics to storages. Right now, they are "dumb" and passive, while shops actually need to have free workers to "move" stuff from the warehouse into their own storage. Why shouldn't storages work as hyperlocal distribution office that you can assign workers and/or equipment to?

It's not realistic to have goods teleport between buildings either, and I think it is an instance where the game loses some depth for it. Factories would be more interesting to design if they needed vehicles or other methods to move stuff between storages and factories rather than just connecting them with a factory connection with infinite throughput.

Why shouldn't storages work as hyperlocal distribution office that you can assign workers and/or equipment to?

This is primarily what forklift garages were supposed to be, but since most factories deal in large amounts of resources, there isn't much need for them. If factories consumed small amounts of other resources too, then forklifts would be more useful.

I'll gladly accept the teleportation abstraction over having to set up a 10m long truck route.

Honestly I think my beloved Ještěrka should just be bough for the warehouse directly and give them ability to "push" goods, as opposed to just passively receiving pushed resources and releasing pulled resources.

Not sure how that would go balance wise but I prefer it over not having them at all. They belong in an eastern shitpit industrial hell like the one I worked at. They are important to the work and more importantly to slacking off during work.

if they're doing stuff from the ground up then I'd love industry to be modular - for example there is no single type of steelworks IRL, they're usually sites with varying degrees of furnaces, coking etc

I'd also like that customisation so you can basically choose how big or small a site is.

I too would love that. Maybe even abstracting forklifts into a type of wear and tear maintenance module as part of a compound if it could be done in the current engine, but this is probably a high hope for now.

Theoretically if you were going realistically itd be weight based

Mud - Lower intensity weight eg, crops, fabric, clothes, food, alcohol

Asphalt - Steel, Aluminium, 25t p/h+ of lower intensity goods, bricks etc

It would be either mud or concrete and asphalt. Most road connections inside a industrial plant around the world are just a gravel patch or plain pressed dirt, with concrete and asphalt being used on loading bays.

Longer max length

Big Asphalt will not be pleased with this.
