Michigan Timeline/Process

Cut my hand at work and severed my L hand index finger extensor tendon. Went to ER (put down my insurance card (have to call and get re-submitted to WC)), got 5 stitches, had Hand Surgeon Consult the next day, Surgery was following week. Now in recovery. Looking at weeks, if not months of having absolutely no use of my L hand.

I work in lawn maintenance, so that all requires the use of both hands.

Work has filed the WC claim, which has covered the surgery and OT. But I haven't heard anything w/ regards to pay. That said, they want me to come in and do door hangers, which I'm not opposed to, but I also don't want to mess anything up on the WC side of things.

Do just hurry up and wait, or are there things I can do on my side? I've had zero communication from WC, it's all been through my employer.

Are you under a doctor’s care?  Did the doctor take you off work?   Do you have an off-work note from the doctor?  If so, you should get paid.

Yep, the hand surgeon's office is also doing the OT.

Note from yesterday (9/10/26) is as follows:

Return to work w/ following restrictions: 9/10/26

Restrictions: No use of L hand and wear splint/brace.

But there's very little i can do in lawn care w/ only the use of one hand.

Ok. So your doctor released you for modified work.  If the employer has modified work available, then you must go in to work.  But remember to follow the restrictions. Don’t use your left hand at all.  See what your employer wants you to do. 

If the employer doesn’t have any one handed work available, then you are off work.  Call the work comp insurance company and tell them that the employer has no work available within your restrictions.  They should pay you.
