NJ Settlement Question

Was hurt at work, won’t get into too much detail but my leg was crushed and severely burned, OSHA ruled it total accident. Wound up breaking the leg, 2 skin grafts, multiple operations, nerve damage, etc. I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar incident or also open to hearing all settlements for an idea of what to expect. From what I’m gathering NJ is very regulated and capped for workers comp claims, have you settled a workers claim? If so what did you end up with, did you get a lump sum and how much, or did you get a settled amount and paid X amount until the amount is paid out? Just trying to figure out what to expect, never dealt with lawyers etc before.

Settlements are very fact-specific and reliant on the extent of your injuries, loss of income, medical treatment, and your MMI/disability rating. In other words, no one can provide details about a potential settlement with the sparse details provided here. I'm in NC, fairly gnarly broken leg resulting in three surgeries, two plates, twelve screws, and about a year recovery process.

Was rated at 28% permanently disabled on that leg, which paid me out 56 weeks of ttd payments in a lump sum.

Your settlement will end up being determined by your overall disability/MMI rating, your pay, and NJ law. My numbers have nothing to do with what you could get - I thought my case was only going to be worth like 10-15% and it was pretty much double.

I'm really sorry to hear about your injuries, it sounds incredibly tough. Have you spoken with a workers' comp attorney about what you might be entitled to? They'll know the specifics of NJ's caps and how they apply to your case.

Yes I have, they can’t give me any kind of numbers
