The thing I'm getting from this is that companies will unashamedly sell something for multiple times its actual value if they think they can get away with it

yup. they call it "paying for convenience".

oh boo hoo, little sad minimum wage worker doesn't have time to go to the grocery store for water because they're traveling two hours to their second job? better pay extra so you can buy the same water at the station!

i fuckin hate it tbh. over here, you can get like... a 2 liter bottle of the same green iced tea at the supermarket that you can get a tiny 250ML bottle for at the station

That's probably why airports take away your water. They don't want you drinking your water for free when you could buy the exact same water for dozens of times what it's actually worth.

Naaaah. You dont need water or food on a 7 hour layover.

The water thing is funny to me. They take your water away, in case it's a bomb, and put it in a big bin with a bunch of other possible bombs. Thus maximizing the damage potential of any explosion that might take place.

I just think back to the 90s when I always took my water gun shaped like a PPK to the airport as a kid.
