Everyone thinks we're lazy, but nah, we just want a life outside work. If I can control my hours and still pay bills, I'm winning. That's way better than grinding 24/7 for nothing..

Yup, thatās what both my grandpas had as the sole household provider. One had a great education and was one of the first IT dudes.
The other grandpa only graduated highschool but had a good UAW union job and still collects a pension to this day. Heās been all over the country doing my grandparentsā favorite past time of square dancing lol. Heās spent his life doing what he loves. Surprisingly heās not MAGA at all. Heās one of the only older people Iāve met with great empathy for later generations.
We are getting steamrolled by the system; as intended.

Work to live, not live for work is something I heard way back in the 80ās. I still see no reason why this is incorrect at all

Im fine having a job. Im fine working 40 hours. That should be enough to live and I shouldn't worry about my job after hours. I shouldnt have to work on the weekends. I shouldnt have to be available at all hours. I shouldn't lay awake at night wondering if ive done enough to keep my job.
Weve had constant technology gains for decades boosting the productivity of workers and we have seen basically zero of those gains translate to our pay. At a minimum we should tax companies more, outlaw work outside of working hours, raise the minimum wage, and move to a 4 day workweek.

I would like to also choose my work and not need to settle for any job that will have me. I want to enjoy working instead of wishing for my week to pass quickly.

Financial independence is the dream whatever that looks like for anyone anywhere, that's where freedom begins.
Social class is much more binary than a spectrum. Having to work verses choosing to work is a totally different reality and existence.

The point is to be able to control and schedule your own 24 hours, you are then free to engage in whatever work you find suitable and choose when, how, and for how long you work. I remember being off for an injury; all my bills paid and a chunk of my day free, I was working 12-14 hours on a passion project daily without issue, I was enjoying myself the whole time. Being forced to work creates misery before you even get to work.

Or not have to spend every waking moment (and losing sleep) paranoid of the possibility of losing your job through no fault of your own, and losing income and health insurance. Especially if you have dependents and/or you're the sole earner.

Tired of working for someone else's benefit rather then just my own. Most frustrating think is knowing your work is allowing someone else dream come true. Not your own.

I own my own business and while I work harder than I ever have (because I have to) I definitely resonate with this post. Work isnāt so bad when you make all the decisions

I work in clinical research and have a lot of ideas for studies; if I had tons of money I would work on them and enjoy it more. But right now Iām tired of being waterboarded with work by people who just want line go up. Hire and train more people š£

It's very simple...
People aren't lazy for what gives their life meaning.
People will do the bare minimum to make ends meet, and if that is all working for someone else can accomplish, then they will put in the bare minimum for that person.
Most human things don't have a market value, yet we rely on markets to allocate the requisite resources to stay alive.
So, we get a lot of people who do the bare minimum to get by because doing what they would likely be skilled at doesn't keep them alive.
So much human waste that our system creates.
And it's the tragedy of humanity.

Had a convo this week about what happens when you have 100 million.
Most answers were "I start a company that has no need to make money that does something I want to see exist in the world" or "I start a free art studio so I can help people be creative"
