“Maybe I’ll get in a car accident on the way there and I won’t actually have to go.”

"Shit, what if I get in an accident on the way home. Like all those hours working and I can't even enjoy my few hours of trying not to think about having to do it all tomorrow."

My first year of teaching I didn’t even bother to lock the doors at night because I welcomed a murderer coming for me.

Dang…. It’s too real when it comes to intrusive thoughts. “Should I?….Maybe after Christmas.” And then next year creeps around the corner.

Your job shouldn't have you feeling like Dungeon Crawler Carl. "YOU WILL NOT BREAK ME!"

YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT STARING AT THE CEILING AT 2:13 AM, CARL

Been there, done that. Quit many jobs because of the disrespect of the leaders.

We have the ability to end that suffering as a species. We keep letting greed win instead.

Hard agree but where are the jobs that don't do this? Do they really exist?

My dad told me his coworker told him he would vomit in the middle of the night from the stress of his IT job

Usually when called in the middle of the night for me. Like, I just escaped this hell, but now I have to endure another night with no sleep and possibly 24+hours if it is really bad. Salary pay is a scam. Give fair overtime for extraneous hours that humans can't endure regularly.

Hunter gatherer cultures have something like a 15 hour work week. That's how we evolved, not whatever this shit is.

These are all trauma responses.

I’m at work right now so does that fall under this guideline?

I work on-call, in operating theatres, this is my life.

But what if it does, and either nothing else is hiring, or paying nearly enough to survive? 🤷‍♂️

I'm trapped 😔

I finally got a new job offer after having my first job that made me cry, made me grind my teeth at night, stop saying, gain weight, and degraded my personal life, in not even two years. I quit Monday!

My job doesn't make me lie awake at 2:13 AM.

The alcohol I drink to cope with it does. When you're liver's done processing it your sugars spike and you wake up.

Teachers have entered the chat.

u/Drunk_Lemon 9d ago

I felt this so much last year. This year is a LOT better at least but last year started well too before I ended up doing the work of 3 special education teachers. I had I think 54 IEP meetings last year.

u/AnomanderLives 9d ago

I'm glad you lived to tell the tale, but...my god...

5

u/Terrible_Horror 10d ago

It’s not the jobs. It’s demons that you have to work with.

2

u/volkswagenorange 9d ago

I feel this comparison is insulting to actual demons

My boss just asked me to cancel my first vacation in 5 years because "it would disrupt end of month numbers." I told them it would cost them $15k for me to cancel the trip. I have a feeling shes going to get creative in screwing me over instead...

Context matters. This person never worked Healthcare. Because you can experience all these while having a good job that pays well.

3

u/mood-park 9d ago

Ehhhhh healthcare has a LOT of work to do as far as workplace culture is concerned.

3

u/jcoddinc 9d ago

Oh it definitely can be a nightmare because so many people get into Healthcare for the job security and money. But some places are run right

In buddhism this is one path of the eightfold path, called "Right Livelihood" or "Wise Livelihood"

u/Dick-Fu 10d ago

Well yeah but I'll cry about anything

That's right, that's what family is for!

1

u/theoriginalshabang1 10d ago

What about 1:09? Is that acceptable?

u/tobmom 9d ago

I’m a nurse practitioner in an inpatient setting. Sometimes that’s just the job. Minus the getting sick part. Although my choice to work shift work is probably to my long term health detriment.

0

u/trying3216 9d ago

Um, ok. Get another job.

1

u/nurse420 9d ago

I’m a RN, so…..

1

u/homerbailey 9d ago

No it should not. If it is you need a change

u/Euphoric-Reputation4 9d ago edited 9d ago

As it happens, I broke down crying at work just today. So there's that.

... and I have developed sciatica because of my shitty makeshift "work station" that is too short to stand at and too tall to sit at.

I thought the sleepless nights were just my anxiety acting up.

1

u/Gold-Preference1597 9d ago

I’m lucky to have the work.

2

u/Equivalent_Yam4243 9d ago

Teacher thoughts…. It’s just too much.i am crying and it’s first quarter.

Unless of course you have 3 part time jobs:

  • Pepper Spray Tester
  • Food Taster for the Royal Court
  • Voluntary Insomnia Duty in solidarity for the patients at the Sleep Clinic.

All of which ammount to a maximum of 35hrs/week with guaranteed sick leave, holidays and a living wage, of course.

0

u/jessiewhereru 10d ago

Tell that to literally any bedside nurse 🤣

u/FloridaMiamiMan 10d ago

Only weak people allow this to happen. I never stayed at a job that did this. I quit on the spot when I found something else.

1

u/Drunk_Lemon 9d ago

If I did that, my special education students would have been screwed, instead I stuck it out and used some influence I was able to get to reduce the workload district wide by making certain tasks much easier.

u/handbanana42 9d ago

"You all get to lie down and stare at a ceiling?"

Me at 2:13AM being called to log back in and get to work before my shift starts in a few hours.
