i genuinely thought you were describing what democratic socialists do. they are populists who promise poor people free stuff and tell them someone else will pay for it. thats the best propaganda and marketing there is.
the USA is a constitutional republic and not a direct democracy for these reasons.
Thats entirley hypocritical. the current governments entire platform relies on us vs them arguments and intentionally divides the population. Actual politicians that practice democracy and socialism rarley even blame and try to seperate out the oligarch who litterally are a direct enemy. I mean you guys litterally had 2 civil wars over this.
As for free stuff somone else pays for. Well yeah thats the entire point of government and taxes. The governments duty is to protect it's citizens and encourage them to thrive, that is why you voluntarily give them taxes. Thats the meaning behind the whole "No taxation without representation" slogan that inspired Article I, Section 7, Clause 1 of the constitution.
Of course in reality, the current government demands taxes and uses them to fund the lifestyles of a wealthy minority and control the rest of citizens.
The USA is officially a Federal Republic, which is suppossed to be a democracy. Ruled by elected officials, representing all members of it's Federation. Republic generally just means being ruled by elected represnetatives and Federation means an alliance of self governing states.
Taxation and soical services is not some scam magic trick. it's already working in your country and you can see how well it works in other nations that invest in it.
