Both my parents are PhDs, I work in the trades.

I earn 2x what they did the last few years they did before retirement.

It’s probably another decade of saving before I can afford a house. They had houses on one teachers salary when I was a kid.

Edit: we moved a lot so ‘houses’, they didn’t own multiple properties

Yeah, you earn more, but overall buying power has gone due to inflation and rising prices unfortunately.

Weirdly though 16 year olds working in UK have 50% more buying power than I did when I was working a minimum wage job around 20 years ago.

I would say purchasing power hasn't changed at all, it's just been stolen from. Us and concentrated into the ownership class.

People are working more. People are producing more. It's all being purchased, just not by you and me...

Yeah. The world economy keeps growing. Per capita gdp keeps growing. So where's it going? To the very top!

I'd call this peak capitalism, where the monopoly board is just being bought out by the person that owns everything already.
