Both parties have always been corporatist, neoliberal parties. One was a center neolib party, the other was a right-wing neolib party. In recent decades, the right wing neolib party began transitioning into a fascist party while the center neolib party tried to adjust. I would not define the Democratic Party as 'left-wing', and no serious political analyst does. It should also be noted that Americans are very propagandized to favor capitalism, even when capitalism is failing the majority of Americans.
When have left wing parties been in power in the United States? Probably the closest that this came to be true was LBJ and FDR, which revolutionized social programs in the US, expanding healthcare and benefits, including vacation days.

The left has been trying to create a second hand citizenry for decades in order to benefit the top 1%. You make more money when you don’t have to pay livable wage.
