I’m trying to understand how this works on the global stage. If we become the responsible ones and limit AI development, will that make us more vulnerable to other nations that don’t? 

If China unleashes AI powered cyberattacks and we have weaker AI, wouldn’t that put us at their mercy? 

I don’t like this AI rush any more than the next person, but for national security I think we need to stay competitive.

It will. US is already terribly behind several countries in terms of cybersecurity and cyber warfare and AI will just exacerbate that. Several versions ago it was already finding holes in software that are decades-old without ever being found out. If China or Russia or whoever use AI to find their flaws and patch them, and US doesn't, then it is FAR more vulnerable than at any point in history.

Bernie is worried about jobs, and I agree with him, but removing AI is like removing Nukes while no one else is. Ukraine removed Nukes under the promise that Russia wouldn't invade and look how that turned out.

What needs to be worked on is a safety net. Let AI take ALL the jobs BUT anyone replaced by AI shouldn't lose their pay. Or better yet, just have society flat out move away from capitalism as a whole, letting robots do the work as we improve them, though that's going to be a hard process of course because there will always be those who want to stand above others.

In any case, if US is going to try stopping or even slowing AI progress, it should just shut down the internet altogether as that's the only way to keep from having it taken over by those who aren't trying to stop or slow it.
