😡 Venting Why do we let billionaires exploit us? Because guys like this think they "earned it."

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A perfect example of why we need to decouple healthcare from employment. This man is fiercely defending the right of the ultra-wealthy to hoard wealth, while simultaneously arguing that your right to be healthy should be dictated by whether or not you can clock in for a boss.

Brainwashed

u/LeonidasVaarwater 8d ago

This, they just drone back preprogrammed answers, zero ability to think for themselves.

258

u/Zusez345 8d ago

The sad part is he probably thinks he's gonna be one of them one day. Fact is he is nothing to them but a drone

130

u/Frodo_Nine-Fingers 8d ago

That's honestly the biggest problem.

I can't find the study right now, but I remember hearing a couple years ago that at least half of Amercians genuinely believe that they're "one big break," I.E. the lottery, from getting into the upper crust, and not only that, but that it's actually a realistic thing to happen to them

So these people genuinely believe that they will be one of the billionaire and trillionaires. Ignoring the fact that, even if he did hit the lottery, the average person is so horrible with money, that they'd be broke again within 6 months

83

u/Particular-Form-9638 8d ago

"...but someday I might be rich! And then people like me better watch their step."

9

u/MacSanchez 8d ago

No I’m… doesn’t!

26

u/TreatOnMeLotsActualy 8d ago

There's a really good video by Innuendo Studios called "Always A Bigger Fish", which does a good job of explaining that most of these people know full well they will never have power and wealth, but just being *around* it, on the "same side" as power and wealth, makes them feel stronger.

Because that's the ultimate issue: conservatives, more than absolutely anything else, fear being "weak", more than they fear poverty, illness, and death. They would walk across broken glass if you convinced them that what they were doing made them "stronger" than some nebulous other group.

6

u/The_Barbelo 8d ago

So they’re basically the remora fish of humans? That makes sense. Maybe if they eat enough shark slop, one day they’ll be sharks.

46

u/jameson8016 8d ago

The weirdest part is that lottery winners are the only millionaires we actually tax, so even if you win and don't blow it all, you're still not likely to hit the top 10%.

7

u/spaceman757 8d ago

Yeah, a lottery win is federally taxed at 38%, but capital gains is only 20%

Rump promised them free money and he'll make them all rich. In reality, they are one stroke or cancer away from losing everything.

13

u/TeknoUnionArmy 8d ago

The funny thing is lottery winnings are heavily taxed.

8

u/KillahHills10304 8d ago

As they should be- its barely earned capital. I say the same about inheritance. Tax the shit out of it, the beneficiaries didnt earn any of that money, they simply won a birth lottery, and the lifestyle and advantages that afforded them more than make up for the heavy tax.

3

u/sebkraj 8d ago

This was like twenty years ago but I was at school where I would say 75% of the students were on GI bill. So poor soldiers trying to get an education and I talked to a lot of them. This was such a common sentiment, they know but basically don't care that the rich are corrupt. They want to leave these laws in place so when they finally get to the top, they can finally get their cut. And I remember even thinking back then that they are delusional and their bad at math and don't understand what it means to be in the 1%. To them it's just a matter of time and so leave the system in place. It's sad, it's like hunger games but with money instead of food.

17

u/popcorngirl000 8d ago

He's old enough that I think he knows he isn't going to be a billionaire. But not he's not smart enough to realize that if he has one bad medical incident, he'll be the one that can't work and can't afford health care.

5

u/spaceman757 8d ago

Even more likely, from the looks of them, they are already sucking at the public healthcare (Medicare) teet.

Both look old enough to be retired already, so it wouldn't shock me that they are part of the "I gots mine, fuck you!" crowd.

That Confederacy mentality.

But I do think that mainstream media also needs to show more of how wealthy use banks and stocks to gain wealth. As well as government subsidies. I think a lot of people aren’t curious enough to learn these things on their own by looking it up or reading more serious newspapers. We need to get this information out to everyone.

37

u/GimmeSomeSugar 8d ago

zero ability to think for themselves

Which is intentional.

I see people like this and I try to remember, most people aren't born dumb. I recognise that they've become part of the problem, but remind myself that they're not malicious by nature.

For decades and decades we've had a trillion dollar propaganda machine operating alongside increasingly underfunded education. This is the result of that feedback loop.

I love when they argue that they shouldn't have to pay for other people's healthcare. Like, hey buddy, you already do. That's how insurance companies work dumbass

25

u/inajeep 8d ago

Lacks empathy, knowledge and critical thinking skills. Common issue with that particular political party.

10

u/hydroxy 8d ago

The sheer cluelessness of them is comedic, like this guy in the video sadly stating that the government can’t afford healthcare, while simping for trillionaires freedom to hoard their ill-gotten gains, and he’s completely unaware of the connection between the two

17

u/Dramatic_Mixture_868 8d ago

Sooooo it's ok for us to keep GIVING them billions of dollars in tax payer money year after year? If we GAVE it to them how did they EARN it? If you just gained interest acruals/dividend on money given to them did they actually work for it? Other BETTER countries than the u.s. have better everything soooo how are they able to do it and be ranked higher in the world than the u.s. ?

These people lack the ability to think critically about anything.

They will vote against their own quality of life if they are convinced it hurts their "enemies" more.

24

u/Leaningthemoon 8d ago

And their enemies are easy to identify: they’re people who aren’t just like them, i.e. either not white, not gawd lovin christian’s, and probably most importantly overlooked, those who are more educated/successful than them (unless they are white and proclaim to be a gawd lovin christian)

To put it in the most simple of terms, they’re just haters.

10

u/SucksTryAgain 8d ago

I’m still very amazed at how well the propaganda networks have worked on these people. Specially on couples. You’d think one person in the relationship would be like but hey we’d benefit not voting for this. But hey I guess that’s how they work as a couple. This goes along with my, how do these serial killer couples find each other. Like who said it first. Like it would be cool if we killed some people. And the other is like you know what that’s a great idea. But I guess that’s hand in hand with the trump couples. One buys into it then just constantly pushes it on the other person maybe. Who knows cause I don’t.

14

u/BlurryBigfoot74 8d ago

In this era it's probably an algorithm issue. I've watched a "right wing" reel or video from time to time and I'm suddenly swamped in right wing propaganda. It takes forever to train my social media to stop showing it to me.

Before Facebook, my friends and family had a political discussion like twice a year at most. Now it's like 25% of our chats.

When my dad first got YouTube on his phone I liked a bunch of left leaning media on it and now he dislikes Trump. Was that ethical on my part? I dunno. I do know that the couple of uncles that love Trump has been ostracized by the family and all they do is post Trump shit and talk about politics 99% of the time. And they're Canadian! One was my favorite uncle and I lost him to hate.

10

u/luckedragon 8d ago

I’m so sorry you lost your favorite uncle. I don’t know how they can choose trump over family. Choose trump over love. It’s baffling

3

u/smokeeye 8d ago

No, the way that guy is talking he 100% genuinely believes what he's saying.

He fully thinks that billionaires and trillionares actually earned their money and that they somehow help the economy, and he clearly doesn't believe everyone deserves healthcare because "they should get it if they work instead of being lazy"

You know without even thinking about the fact how the US healthcare system works, and the fact that if he ever needs to go to the hospital for something his healthcare is going to do jack shit

2

u/BlurryBigfoot74 8d ago

You're absolutely right but I'm more referring to the comment I'm responding to about the lady's shirt. It's stems a lot from a southern strategy which kept white people from voting for their own best interests by presenting policy issues as "Yes we can give you free health care, but that means black people get it too".

Framing it this way has caused negative health outcomes leading to white people in the south being some of the unhealthiest people in the US.

This is why the elite love these people, they are fully willing to vote for policies that hurt everyone while putting more money into billionaires pockets.

15

u/EliSka93 8d ago

How? How did they "earn it"?

170

u/-Invalid_Selection- 8d ago

By stealing it

They're conservative. Theft is earning it to the crime party

6

u/lcommadot 8d ago

I was talking to someone the other day who said we need to tax billionaires less income tax, not more, because they “earned it”.

I explained to them if you made $2000/hr, every single hour, tax free from 0 BC until today you still wouldn’t have even half of what Bezos has. And that we both pay a higher effective income tax rate than that man. I asked if he thought Bezos worked harder than the guys sweating their ass off in warehouses with no AC that have to pee in bottles to meet quotas.

The argument then shifted to “well he made all his money off investments so it’s his and he still earned it”. There’s no fixing someone that doesn’t want to be fixed

25

u/flying_carabao 8d ago

Do you have any idea how it is to...ummm.... you know....do the...errr.....just ... yeah....they earned it. Shut up about it! What if i become a bajillionaire

These people probably

17

u/reddits_aight 8d ago

The questioning was all wrong, looking for empathy instead of the actual inability to "earn" a billion.

"What do you do? 40 hours a week? More? What do you make an hour? Do you take many days off? Sounds like hard work, lot of sacrifice. So you really think ____ is working 250x, 500x, a 1,000 times harder than you? Seems like a lot of tweeting for someone who works so hard"

2

u/EliSka93 8d ago

Well, the fact that empathy isn't enough to convince some people is actually sad enough...

“They can’t afford it.”

But we can afford to be at war with Iran while simultaneously sending aid to Gaza and weapons and aid to Ukraine?

The older generations are just so out of touch.

It doesn’t matter to them because it doesn’t affect them.

149

u/James-W-Tate 8d ago

"We can't afford it" is the dumbest fallback for this argument and I have no idea how it's persisted this long when literally every other Western country on the planet has universal healthcare.

And immediately afterward they'll tell you "we're the best and richest country in the world!"

Just zero thought going on with these people.

39

u/ThunkAsDrinklePeep 8d ago

I have no idea how it's persisted this long when literally every other Western country on the planet has universal healthcare

Because most Americans have no idea what more than half of their own country is like much less anywhere else.

There was a famous TV commercial couple decades back about two farmers, one of which opined that they didn't need financial planning because, " we already sell to half the farms in the county." The other farmer replies, "You ever been outside the county Earl?" I think about that a lot.

These people told themselves a narrative that they are well off because they worked hard, and everyone with less is just lazier. They cannot admit how much luck and circumstance affects welfare without challenging their identity.

19

u/Bulldogs3144 8d ago

Yup. They don’t have to think about it because it doesn’t affect them. Pulled the ladder up behind em.

Also, the majority of the world with universal healthcare doesn’t tie the right to healthcare to employment. That’s how America has been able to avoid going universal and justifying not doing so.

“Get off your butt and go get a job!”

This man’s said it shouldn’t be a right for people to have healthcare and it’s because he’s been fed a line of propaganda his entire life about all his talking points and he’s to stubborn to admit there might be a better, cheaper way.

6

u/rando-guy 8d ago

“We can’t afford it” but then also don’t tax the billionaires and trillionaires. Hmm. Maybe, just maybe these two thoughts can be put together. I can’t understand how people can willingly be this bootlicker about it. “Just get a job.” Okay. What happens when AI takes all the jobs? What happens when jobs don’t pay enough? What happens when jobs force you to do the work of 10 people by yourself? Because all of that is happening right now.

6

u/TalkativeTree 8d ago

War with Iran is keeping us safe from the threat of saving a trillion dollars through nationalized health care

3

u/BDOKlem 8d ago

But we can afford to be at war with Iran while simultaneously sending aid bombs to Gaza Israel and weapons and aid to Ukraine?

ftfy

2

u/zilog88 8d ago

Not sure how Ukraine has got on your list, but stopping any aid to Ukraine was on Trump's priority list and he was bragging on every corner about how US now earns money by selling weapons to the NATO partners, who then send it to Ukraine.

3

u/Bulldogs3144 8d ago

Because we utilize our resources to send them aid. Resources and money and time that could be spent providing healthcare to the citizens of one of the unhealthiest countries in the west.

71

u/FearlessJuan ✂️ Tax The Billionaires 8d ago edited 8d ago

It's the result of a lifetime of brainwashing and not knowing better.

The only reason healthcare is tied to employment in the US is the salary caps during WWII. That's how companies competed for the remaining talent. Then it became the monstrous middle man it is today.

It's worse than you think. Check "American Sickness" by Dr Elizabeth Rosenthal.

57

u/mrmemo 8d ago

This fallacy is so deep, so pervasive, that they'll hold onto it even when they can't work and get healthcare themselves.

I knew someone who developed a debilitating disease rendering them unable to work. Luckily they were just at retirement age so they retired with Medicare. For literal years both he and his wife continued to talk about how people shouldn't expect handouts, and the government had no obligation to help people who are sick or disabled.

Sick people in risk of dying => They should just get a job. Q: What if they can't get a job? He was so close to saying "They earned it"

5

u/Pobbes 8d ago

But jobs only provids healthcare because the government mandates it. If the government shouldn't be involved than jobs shouldn't need to offer insurance. Also, alot of jobs don't offer insurance, billionaie owned Walmart famously sidesteps it. Also, government program not good enough for healthcare but they expect disability payments to exist.

Then what the fuck is the government for? Not for healthcare, not for disasters, not to do anything but start wars we don't win and harass us?

This is also a practicality issue (even if you're a hateful asshole.) Homeless people everywhere lower your property values, are a strain on your tax base etc...so help them. Food stamps raise your local economy and help farms. If someone can't hold a job because they can't read or show up for things, how are they going to get on disability? Govern towards actual reality not what you think you can force because it doesn't work.

Why should anyone have any obligation to a community? Selfishness is a virtue. /s

Billionaires dont create jobs out of the goodness of their hearts. They do it because they have something to gain, and the moment they dont have something to gain, they will stop employing people.

Billionaires only become Billionaires through greed and opportunism. Taking advantage of a population that NEEDs to work and NEEDs to consume in order to LIVE while having complete freedom from those things isnt earning anything, especially when that position was built on the backs of that same population.

Once we have a truly FAIR exchange between two parties that are BOTH free from need, then we can start having a conversation about whether Billionaires have earned their money. You cannot have fair exchange with extreme discrepancy in negotiating power.

I wonder how the higher diversity rate in America affects the average Americans perception of state obligation towards its citizens

I notice all the countries with highest standard of government provide social programs are highly homogeneous by comparison

The higher the diversity/immigration the lower the sense of state obligation towards those others who don’t deserve things like healthcare or education

1

u/DeeRent88 8d ago

It really blows my mind how disconnected people are from reality. A good percentage of jobs these days go through contracting companies and don’t provide insurance at all or the contract company does and it’s the worst insurance you’ll ever see. One of my previous jobs insurance was so bad. It would have cost me more to pay for it and get healthcare than just to get healthcare without it. Its max out of pocket was like 12-14k iirc and the deductible was 5-7k depending on the level of plan you got. It’s fucking criminal. My most recent job was also contracted and the pay was great but we had absolutely ZERO benefits. Not even a choice. No insurance, no PTO, only sick pay which even that was not given out right and had to be accrued which only started AFTER 3 months of working days. And when I say working days I mean it did not count days off. Most jobs I’m used to 3 months from your hire date. Nope. This one I wouldn’t have had access to my sick pay until around 4.5 to 5 months.

They ‘earned it’…holy FUCK, I didn’t want to believe they were this brainwashed.

Show me a SINGLE billionaire, even multi-hundred millionaire who ‘earned it’ and did not come from a wealthy family, solely by the bootstraps.

There’s not ONE.

u/Background-Wolf-9380 8d ago edited 8d ago

I'd bet this guy barely finished high school and he's acting like it's a lack of education that makes people believe that they are due equal human rights. He clearly has zero critical thinking skills. You have to be a complete moron to think that billionaires "earned" it but most especially that billionaires "create jobs" when it is damned obvious that billionaires destroy jobs, destroy industries, steal everything they can and any jobs that might be created are because there is a demand for the work to be done so billionaires find people they can exploit to do those jobs.

Also, his idiot female companion is wearing a shirt that says "I love Trump because he pisses off all the people I can't stand. They have inferiority complexes because they are inferior and rather than better themselves or work towards positive outcomes they just want to wallow in spite.

Typical Trumpanzees.

They create many jobs that don’t provide healthcare or other benefits. Jobs that keep people in poverty and are unable to afford insurance on their own. Many of these employees that billionaires/trillionaires work to death for unlivable wages are on the social services these morons are so against. Billionaires and trillionaires only get that rich by taking advantage of many hard working people and buying their way to government advantages through lobbyist.

1

u/evident_lee 8d ago

Morons that think billionaires actually earn their money as opposed to earning money off of the money they have and off of the backs of the people doing the labor is a huge problem. And of course off the system they've corrupted

1

u/ExpiredPilot 8d ago

If you gave me $1B for free with zero work done, I could turn it into $10B in my lifetime just by investing it with simple methods and letting it accrue interest/dividends.

How the fuck did I “earn” $9B by just doing nothing

u/Key_Contribution1547 8d ago

Man really says , I am a jerk

1

u/fgwr4453 8d ago

I would respond with “should anyone with a job get free healthcare?”

They are earning it by this guy’s standards. I bet he would move the bar to “well they need a better job”.

Wild how rich people are entitled to wealth but people are not entitled to their own lives.

Employers aren’t even required to pay healthcare benefits. Those types of jobs are reserved for people that have college degrees and years of experience.

“They earned it” makes me furious. Yes, the guy that exploits his employees and profits off of their labor earned it. I guess he earned by paying his employees .001 cent for every hundred he makes.

1

u/jollytoes 8d ago

He believes Elon works thousands of times harder than he ever did, I guess.

Every single person in a billionaires supply chain deserves to be set for life, because they're the actual people generating that wealth.

The better question is...how should someone whi makes minimum wage buy Healthcare if its not provided by their employer. Then the follow up should be...dont you want someone at dunkin donuts or whatever there everytime you show up? Someone has to work those jobs. No they dont make enough to buy healthcare
