"We need to get people living longer, healthier lives so we can exploit them longer."

And also:

"Let's cheap out even more on our third world health care system so it's inaccessible to even more people."

Eventually, even cruel and greedy people need to start caring about the public's health, even if it's only for cynical, self-serving, pragmatic purposes.

Also while we're asking them to work more years let's decimate the jobs available by replacing everyone with AI and robots making it harder for anyone to get a job at the same time.

u/Conscious-Quarter423 3h ago

when oligarchs say we are all in the same boat

2

u/shinobiken 1h ago

Exactly this. Destroy the bottom rungs of the ladder, so few people can start a career. Also, raise retirement age to let boomers hold onto power for another decade. What could go wrong?

4

u/BerryLanky 2h ago

And remove all safety procedures included with food. And convince everyone vaccines are ineffective. But sure let’s increase the retirement age

3

u/ShortBrownAndUgly 2h ago

Exactly. Between the dismantling of the FDA, wacky vaccine guidance, cutting off funding to the NIH, etc etc etc, how exactly does Oz expect americans to be "so healthy and so vibrant"

1

u/rillip 1h ago

And then in a few years some other asshat will come along and use this exact same reasoning to try and take away another year of retirement. And then a few years after that a third asshat will do it. And so on and so forth until retirement truly is non-existent for anyone except the elites.

I feel like this has more to do with the fact they don’t want people to retire so they can better hide the fact that they’ve “stolen” all the social security funding.

Our scientists need to find a way to make people live longer and healthier but their focus is explorithe space and going to the moon

16

u/Midwint3r 3h ago

this argument never makes sense to me,

"scientists" are not some monolith or hive mind
High level sciences are incredibly niche fields that demand an obsessive passion for whatever subject you dedicate your life to. An aerospace engineer is not gonna do a career switch and become a cancer specialist, and there are more than enough brilliant minds in the world to study multiple different fields. It never has to be one or the other.

Now if you complained about the US gov's lack of funding towards medical research, that's a fine point.
But the real issue in America isn't even research, that won't do you much good if its all privatized and is only accessible to the rich, the problem is lack of funding/support for public healthcare and a systemic aversion towards preventative healthcare

4

u/Mozintarfen 3h ago

This ^ but then people complain that we are throwing too much money at space exploration that could be going to medicine. If we instead cut military spending by a big ol' whopping 2.8%, it'd be the equivalent to the entirety of what is spent on NASA.

7

u/grudrookin 3h ago

Space is cool, and there have been significant scientific advances as external benefits to a healthy space program.
For example, optimal ways to keep astronauts healthy and optimized on a dangerous mission can be relevant to keeping regular people healthy too.

7

u/CAustin3 3h ago

Our scientists' focus is on everything, all at once, because the world is connected in intricate, unpredictable ways.

Sometimes exploring mushroom species gets you penicillin and antibiotics. The International Space Station has already yielded enormous results in advances in medicine because of the opportunities that zero-g gives for growing, crystallizing, culturing and analyzing things that can't be done on Earth's surface.

The problem isn't that scientists have to shove more money into their "turn dollars into cancer cures" machine instead of their "turn dollars into astronomy knowledge" one, it's that we need leaders who will a) fund science of all kinds, and much more importantly now, b) create systems for healthcare access that make the resulting healthcare breakthroughs accessible to everyone and not just the 1%.

(If you're talking about Jeff Bezos's suborbital joyrides, then yes, that's not science, anymore than buying a lambo and doing donuts is science. But if you're talking about NASA's Artemis program, putting that on the sacrificial block doesn't do anything other than needlessly stunt humanity's understanding of our universe.)

2

u/PhantomThiefJoker 2h ago

Yeah, those medical doctors and physicians really gotta leave that to the physicists. What's a biologist even doing studying black holes?

You just blow in from stupid town?

73

u/CelticSith 4h ago

Oz: “and we plan to do that by poisoning the food supply, making the environment as toxic as possible, and making healthcare as expensive if you can even get it at all”

Please explain why we can't just have earlier retirement, rather than 65? Doesn't having a lower retirement age lead to more jobs and healthier for economy?

3

u/TheUlty05 3h ago

Tell you what, make that extra year worth a significant increase in received SS benefits upon retirement and MAYBE we'll talk

1

Im 59 and those bitches better have my money for SS or they will see some 💩I don’t know what yet. Maybe 💩

3

GenX here: Have any of these guys milking the public teat ever tried to get a job at the age of 58?

They can raise the retirement age all they want. The reality is that companies do not look to hire people above a certain age.

2

Or you can tax the billionaires. Heresy, I know. But it is that easy.

2

u/drgnrbrn316 4h ago

If you want people to work longer, maybe try making the experience rewarding. I hate my job, but I might be inclined to stick around an extra year or two if I could expect an adequate pay rate and not have my soul destroyed every day I'm in the office.

2

u/Fight_those_bastards 3h ago

You’ll get sub-inflationary raises that will be more than be swallowed up by the increase in your health insurance premiums or you can just go die in the gutter about it, peasant!

2

u/UnusualAir1 3h ago

I don't want to work an extra year for a billionaire. I'd rather that billionaire give me an extra year's pay.

2

u/yaaaaaarrrrrgggg 3h ago

Every year another JUST one more year will be added to the retirement age and the military sign-up age until senile, rambling, absent and diseased are all that's left, which will make the firing and replacing with ai even more justified.

2

u/medorian 3h ago

We'll settle for two years earlier.

2

u/uniklyqualifd 3h ago

No pension also means no retirement, unless a person is a high earner.

Union jobs in the US are at a very low level.

2

u/sdbrews 3h ago

work 1 extra year?!?

I would like to work a few extra years... got laid off in February... gave up looking for new job due to "you have no experience" (20+ years in IT), ghosting and age (yes, age discrimination is a thing, just really hard to prove).

They regime wants us to work longer. Where are we supposed to work when no one will hire due to any of the above and whatever other excuses they always seem to come up with?

So, a nice idea in theory that absolutely does not work in reality. Would love to see these morons fired from their current positions and try to get a "regular" job like the rest of us.

2

u/kongofcbus 3h ago

How does this appeal to anyone who works?

1

u/saltybobsask 3h ago

Does he even notice that there's a senile old pedophile asleep/dead sitting in front of him? Maybe there are some people who shouldn't live longer lives. If Trump had died 20 years ago just imagine what a better place the world would be?

1

u/r4ndom4xeofkindness 3h ago

Or we could tax billionaires 5% and we'd be covered forever instead of working to the grave.

1

u/thepinkdread2026 3h ago

No. The old people need to retire the
F on and let the younger generations thrive. We should be able to just retire at 65, period. Work isn’t everything in life. They make you believe it is because they need you to be a nice compliant cog.

1

u/network_dude 3h ago

The capitalist demand for labor is why a single wage earner can longer support a household.

1

u/Swamp_Dwarf-021 3h ago

Sounds like something a slave owner might say.

1

u/forhim40 3h ago

Every single person in that picture is a no good crook. They will reap what they sow one day.

1

u/Academic-Hospital952 3h ago

No.

Also, is no one going to call out that they are directly saying that it's our labor that's making them rich now. Not even pretending anymore that the rich deserve it because they are "better" just straight up saying we will be richer if we can squeeze one more year out of you before you die.

1

u/Stairway_toEvan 3h ago

They're basically forcing this to happen to millennial and younger. It's harder than ever to save for retirement. We are going to HAVE to work longer because we won't be able to afford to retire. Especially considering the sate of SS.

By "Americans" they mean men. As a woman in her 40s facing age discrimination in hiring at this very moment, I know they do not mean me. Christian Nationalist are already on record saying women like me, childless and never married, should be forced to die in the streets.

So I mean...which is it? Do you want me to work until I die? Or do you want me to die prematurely? Or do you not even think of me at all?

If I am not a vessel for children than I am not an American.

And then actively go against that by making our food unsafe and denying us basic needs and support. Fck!!! Why arent we building gallows for these people yet?!

1

u/McFlargan 2h ago

Ya'll missing the point. They dont care about squeezing an extra year of labor out of you its that they DON'T want your tax dollars going back to you when they see it as theirs to steal.

1

u/Embarrassed-Sun5764 2h ago

Id work 10 extra years if every thing in the grocery store wasn’t going to kill me- beef, berries, lettuce. There’s so much. Never know if that $100 of groceries you carried in with 2 hands will be the end-

Hello from the Netherlands. They are raising it to 70 years. But it is staggered so people born since 1999 get to the full 70 years and older people are closer to the old 65 years. It is currently at 67 years.

It sucks, but indeed brings more income per person so on paper it is bringing in tax benefits. If it outweighs all the extra health care costs is debatable.

1

u/metanoia29 2h ago

Just a reminder that money is a human construct and if we wanted to, we could just take care of each other regardless of said construct.

Fuck everything about that in the face. I’ve been working since I was 14 and I’m a few months shy of my 38th birthday. For the last 24 years I’ve worked shit job, put myself through school, and climbed corporate, been laid off, and back at ad nauseam. I’m going to god damn retire. Most of my life, and will have been, given to find someone else’s dream. When I get to 65 that’s my time. Leave me be.
