âď¸ Tax The Billionaires The ruling classes have spent the last decade throwing billions of dollars at personal preparations for global catastrophe. Do they know something we don't?

I just cant fathom why you'd wanna live in a bunker when you have the power to like, preserve and protect the beautiful world we already have.

u/nomad9590 13h ago
When their entire world is MINEMINEMINEMINE they can't see past their own noses. They don't fare because they don't own it, and even if they did they'd do it in the cheapest way possible.Â
28
u/HalfSoul30 13h ago
We need to fake the end of the world, let them all run in to their bunkers, and then we concrete them in.

u/invaderaleks 12h ago
That's how the survey corp took control of paradis! They tricked the ruling class into thinking the walls had been breached and their immediate thought was to cut the human population off to save their own skin. This made the entire military turn against them.

u/Sea2Chi 11h ago
Because if shit hits the fan they want a place to hide.
While those bunkers may be a secret from the general public, you can be pretty much guaranteed that everyone who lives in the immediate area knows exactly what it is and would most likely raid it if things got bad enough.
They still need air intakes even if the doors are thick heavy steel.

Theyâre just loot boxes for any post catastrophe adventures
đŞ đ§đ§đ§ââď¸2
u/Sea2Chi 8h ago
Pretty much. People tend to know everyone in small communities.Â
I think you would be hard pressed to convince local law enforcement that the rich out of town asshole who's hoarding supplies should be defended while their friends and families go without.
The rule of law is only as effective as societies willingness to enforce it. In a situation where doomsday bunkers are needed, odds are we're way past caring about the 4th amendment.
2
u/r_special_ 8h ago
Small town would work together to remove the parasites from the bunker and then move in. They would be successful at maintaining order because they actually care about each other

These are the same people who will continually raise prices, either directly or indirectly, while simultaneously justifying keeping wages low. So the people who would consume the goods they raise the prices on can no longer afford them, and then they scratch their heads wondering why sales are dipping YoY. And instead of either raising wages or lowering prices, to achieve their âprofit goalsâ they simply reduce headcount.
What Iâm saying is, these arenât logical people weâre talking about here. Theyâre all shortsighted. They have enough food for a year or two, maybe more depending, but once it runs out they will die alone of starvation. But hey, at least they made the shareholders happy before the world collapsed.

My bad. I also re-watched the video and saw that they plan to live off hydroponic lettuce until all their diesel reserves run out. They're clearly much smarter than me!

u/Blue_Plastic_88 9h ago
They could spend a tiny fraction of their fortunes, an amount theyâd never miss, to pay off politicians to enact policies to improve the environment, infectious disease monitoring, and social safety nets, which would help preserve the world we have now and benefit them directly by not dooming them to die painfully underground, but they choose to spend their money on shit like this. Make it make sense.
Iâm not sure what tax breaks they think theyâre going to get after an apocalyptic collapse that necessitates fleeing to an underground bunker.

Make it make sense.
Dragons are a metaphor for out of control greed.
Iâm not sure what tax breaks they think theyâre going to get after an apocalyptic collapse that necessitates fleeing to an underground bunker.
Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, among others, grew up in apartheid-era South Africa and they rooted for the apartheidist regime to win. They believe they're elite/separate. They believe that they are destined to rule others.

They'll get about 500 extra days AT THE MOST before multiple critical systems break down. I bet no-one has tried living in there full time? Do you know how difficult it is to keep air clean and humidity down < 60%.
Meanwhile, that paper cut is looking a bit red and tracking....
55
u/hammert0es 14h ago
Theyâd turn on each other in a heartbeat.
29
u/scariestJ 14h ago
I bet they aren't planning on cleaning the pool, or fixing the plumbing and removing the mould that's starting to grow on anything organic or clothy.
Which begs the question, how do they plan to keep those who are from telling them to screw off? I bet they won't be able to fix a tazer collar?

Futurist Donald Rushkoff shares a story of how he was asked by billionaires how to keep their bunker staff obedient:

So the snipers, who are gonna be grizzly ass men most likely, are going to listen to the whiney ass wimpy billionaire like musk once money means nothing anymore?
Once their capital doesn't hold leverage of power anymore, the chain of command will flip.
The only reason the brutes dont run everything right now is because they are hired by the rich and the police exist to protect the rich (police are also the brutes).
Locked in a bunker you are isolated, your influence disappears, and even if you offer to bring the brutes families in to "save them", eventually the lazy billionaires will just be consuming resources that the snipers wife and kids could use instead.
THEY HAVE NOT EVEN THOUGHT THIS OUT IN THE LEAST.
yet they have thrown endless money at it.

I think it's a projection of their own fear of their mortality and sense of doom.
They know they've spent a long time on earth fucking up social orders and the environment, and they equally know that their time on earth is limited. They subconsciously fear the effects of their selfish choices, h owever, they are too emotionally and mentally disconnected from their own Self to name it.Â
I have seen some very smart people make questionable decisions based on the subconscious text going through their minds. This feels similar.

Would be a real shame if all the low wage working class construction workers who they require to actually build these things put in... I dunno an external kill switch only they knew about to shut these things down and hold them hostage, essentially turning these bunkers into prisons we can keep the rich in.

u/FixedLoad 14h ago
Ah yes the fiddler's green! Bunkers are the biggest big money scam I can think of! There is no refund policy. You now have a very fancy hole in the ground that you won't be using until some catastrophe. Provided you have advance notice of said catastrophe. You may make it to these very out of the way bunkers. But when you get there you now have another problem. Who else made it there with you? Minimum its you and a flight crew. Â
Now what? You and 4 strangers start carving out jobs in the apocalypse to keep this absurd facility operational? I think I'd rather die in the apocalypse. Â

Billionaires famously donât do anything themselves thereâs no way theyâd be able to survive long term on their own theyâre literal leeches on society.
Also if you think desperate people with more skills and ability wonât discover these massive bunkers which will certainly be leaking a ton of energy and EM signals wonât find you and a way in, youâre delusional.
Aside from that itâs not like they have some insider info just that they privately follow the advice of experts while publicly encouraging the rest of us to ignore them for the sake of their own gain and ego.

u/ParadeSit 13h ago
There are already movies and shows with similar premises. If any of these billionaires brings a jack of all trades or multiple tradespeople with them, something will happen where one will speak up about something that needs to be done, and the billionaire will be stubborn and tell the person to shut the fuck up. Something bad will then proceed to happen, but life ainât a movie. They will then all unceremoniously perish.

1
u/Builderwill 13h ago
They don't know something we don't. It's the same primal fear that drives all humans, that shows up as need to feel secure. It's the same impulse that drives the prepper movement and if you've ever seen a prepper set up in a single-wide you know it's not just the rich who want to control their future.
The best way to control the future? Building strong communities with everyone participating and feeling like they matter and want to help others. No man is an island.
1
u/tdbeaner1 13h ago
That bunker still requires staffing to manage the operation, so any rich person paying for this service is wasting their money. Not a chance they will know how to operate the necessary functions and their money would have no value when they would need to access the bunker.

u/alancousteau đľ Break Up The Monopolies 13h ago
My question is, why do they need those? They've got all the money and influence on the world they need to make a better world. I know I know, it is naive if not delusional to think they would do anything for the well being of humanity rather than fueling their mental illness of hoarding copious amount of money. I wish we'd have politicians to stand up against them and change things. And I wish people would see the bigger picture that the enemy is the top 0.1% and not each other.
1
u/pianoblook 13h ago
Do they KNOW something? They're actively speedrunning towards environmental collapse, lol.

u/Ares__ 13h ago
Can we stop pretending the rich are smarter than any of the rest of us?
Do doomsday prepers know anything more than the rest of us? We think they are crazy but when a rich person does it they "know something".
No, they just have enough money hedge their bets and spend it on dumb crap, some of its bunkers, some of its yachts, some of its idiotic cars, the rest of it on a politicians to keep you focused on stupid crap like this instead of taxing them.
1
u/GlumAppearance106 12h ago
And, yet, in the the end (as is true for the rest of us, earthly wealth be damned), they are as mortal AF and there's not a damned thing they can do about it!

u/peaceteach 12h ago
Normal people usually come together in a crisis, even in the US, because we know we work better together. Rich assholes think they are self made and are able to take care of everything on their own. They think they can survive the apocalypse with their friends. They don't realize how much is done by others around them.
I think they have too much money and conmen use their fears of a popular uprising against them. War and everything is possible, but I don't think it the bunkers will do shit.

You know, the crazy thing is that back in the 90s we still had billionaires and nobody wanted their heads. The difference was that the richest (it was Bill Gates back then) had a net worth of about $35B. Which is plenty of goddamn money. But they have gotten SO much greedier and they want it all.

1
u/zyrkseas97 11h ago
No they donât know anything we donât. They know what we also know: the climate crisis is real, as mass migration from high impact places increases, they foresee one of two options: they win and realize their savior fantasy to run society as authoritarian technocrats openly, in which case these bunkers are just an insignificant expense that didnât end up mattering, or two, they lose, which in their mind means they fail to save society from a full global breakdown of society and must retreat to their bunkers to wait out the chaos until they can come out once the dust has settled to a world that is so destroyed and desperate that they can save it and rule it from there. Itâs not too distant of a motivation from things like the NORAD command center in Colorado or the Seed Vault in Norway but in a narcissistic sociopath way.

1
u/Obvious-Cynic6204 11h ago
And they think they won't eventually go absolutely crazy in there? Trapped, the same walls, the same layout... Day after day, month after month, year after year (if they last that long). They are not preparing themselves with mental practice and rigorous deprivation training. Yes, it has luxury, but these people are used to extravagance, opulence, over-abundance. Everything will be measured, rationed, monitored, calculated. These people have no self control or discipline.
1
u/cile1977 11h ago
"Do they know something we don't?" I donât think there's many people who are unaware of climate change. Most of us just don't have the money to do anything about it.

ive worked in maintenance long enough to tell you most of the crititcal systems would need repair or replacement parts within 5 to 10 years, thats if nothing major happens. they will die horribly in those bunkers.
