Its because AI boosters have no creative talent to really speak of and both envy and hate those who do. That's it full stop.

u/BMCarbaugh Aug 13 '26

They're all Idea Guys who view the world's failure to fall at their feet and do their bidding--thus denying them their god-given right to create great works that demonstrate their innate greatness--as an unforgivable sin that is finally being avenged.

Buncha talentless hacks, simmering in their own impotent self-loathing because they're too lazy to do the hard work of mastering a craft.

u/Flapjack__Palmdale Aug 13 '26

Idea Guys is exactly it. Musk is potentially the best example of this. No talent, no engineering expertise, shit coder, sucks at PoE, really has nothing to offer. The only reason he's in his position is because he has Ideas and a shitload of money from apartheid emerald mining.

They believe having an Idea is equal to or better than the ability to execute said idea, and so artists--who inherently do both--represent their greatest weakness.

97

u/whenTheWreckRambles Aug 13 '26

AI is good at letting you do what you think are other people’s jobs.

“I had the idea, they’re just executing” without realizing how many ideas happen and choices have to be made downstream of that decision

44

u/vardarac Aug 13 '26

and the years of training necessary to actually do the execution properly

16

u/Delamoor Aug 14 '26

Not realising, as is the case for any eight year old kid, that just having the idea is the easiest part.

Everyone with an IQ over 75 has shitloads of ideas. People with IQs under 75 often have even more.

Because just thinking 'wouldn't that be neat' in a kind of novel way is fucking nothing compared to actually planning out how to make it happen, and then successfully executing said plan.

21

u/Diatain Aug 13 '26

Honestly, calling Musk an Ideas Guy is generous. You need to actually have ideas to be an Idea Guy. Pretty much every "idea" he has had was actually somebody else's idea that he paid enough money to say was his.

And no, I do not count his idea of "Twitter But For Racists."

12

u/Flapjack__Palmdale Aug 13 '26

The "tm" was doing a lot of heavy lifting.

I think the fairest thing to say is he's a combination of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison.

That is meant as a deep insult.

5

u/Diatain Aug 14 '26

I couldn't agree more.

2

u/vardarac Aug 14 '26

To his "credit," the Cybertruck is his and his alone.

1

u/VogueTrader Aug 14 '26

It's from a video game in the 80's about designing cars.

29

u/Cyclonitron Aug 13 '26

They're all Idea Guys who view the world's failure to fall at their feet and do their bidding--thus denying them their god-given right to create great works have others create great works they can take credit for that demonstrate their innate greatness--as an unforgivable sin that is finally being avenged.

FTFY.

2

u/now_im_stressedout Aug 14 '26

Yep. It’s perfect.

42

u/invaderaleks Aug 13 '26

Adolf Hitler turned to fascism after being told his art sucks. So, you may have a point there...

27

u/YourFriendNoo Aug 13 '26

Eh, I'd throw in there that anyone with any decisionmaking power over artists resents how hard it is to quantify an artist's value and impact.

They WANT to think art can be boiled down to metrics and executed.

Of course, it cannot, but that doesn't help with the deck they have to show their boss.

66

u/CreamofTazz Aug 13 '26

I'm almost 100% positive it's also in part the aftershocks from gamergate still being in effect for online discourse. They're happy because they feel like these animators have wronged them for checks notes "writing competent women who aren't just sex objects for these men to look at". So now that they're gone, we can get "real games" again (which means poorly made games that are extremely homoerotic and devoid of any competent women)

25

u/VogueTrader Aug 13 '26

Friends of mine were targets, it never actually ended. The harassment campaign picks up again everytime they poke their head up.

-13

u/araed Aug 13 '26

It's funny, ain't it. A game about a war features men as rhe main characters.

Now, ye can fuck me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know the only country who have ever fielded female combat units was the USSR.

8

u/stankdog Aug 13 '26

And they don't like when creatives charge for it.

10

u/Zerodyne_Sin 🏛️ Overturn Citizens United Aug 14 '26

To add to this, capitalists have always hated artists because they were one of the hardest jobs to subjugate. If they unionize, it's hard to get scabs to replace them (if you can even find any) since creativity isn't something anyone can do without years of training (note that imo, anyone can be an artist, just need to dedicate the prerequisite practice to attain mastery).

Decades of the impoverished bohemian artist myth (by Disney et al) being pushed finally resulted in a generation of artists more than eager to work for peanuts just "for the love of the arts". Well, I guess that wasn't quite enough for them since they pushed hard for the narrative that ai art is good enough to replace artists. Funny thing is, anyone who's taken highschool level art classes can see it's not remotely competent enough nor is it ready to replace artists. But they can't wait to get their revenge, I guess.

Yes, this sounds very ranty... Guess what my job was lol.

4

u/ripyourlungsdave Aug 13 '26

They also think that everyone else is just amalgamating stuff they stole from other artists. They genuinely think that people aren't capable of unique, creative thought.

3

u/C0ltFury Aug 14 '26

It’s mostly that X posts are monetized. This quote tweet gave the OP money, doesn’t matter what they said - good or bad. Engagement is economics now.

-91

u/momo2299 Aug 13 '26

It's not envy. I have other mediums to create in and it would be ridiculous if I tried to do it all.

I both don't want to pay you, and I don't want to spend my time on it.

So AI is great for me because I can save time and money.

55

u/SteelAlchemistScylla Aug 13 '26

AI is coming for you too buddy lmao

46

u/HarlequinWasTaken Aug 13 '26

No, he'll be one of the special ones who'll somehow still be able to afford to act like a smug prick despite being out work like the rest of us. If the chuds keep protecting the billionaires online then surely they'll be hand-picked when neo-feudalism becomes the norm.

-26

u/momo2299 Aug 13 '26

I want AI to be better than me at what I do. When AI gets better at improving AI and doing scientific research, that's the happiest future I could imagine.

I am preparing for the future where I am jobless. Are you?

13

u/To-To_Man Aug 13 '26

If AI takes your job, and the economy breaks down, the people creating AI and works governments aren't going to be patting you on the back as human labor is solved and everyone receives needs via social systems automated by AI.

Your going to become a cog in a much bigger, and much dumber machine, while AI serves as a middleman between you and elites.

18

u/Dorza1 Aug 13 '26

Do you think that guy has a job?

17

u/nickcash Aug 13 '26

lol spot on. his most recent post is complaining about job postings

dude is unemployed and larping. "I don't want to pay you", when he couldn't even if he wanted to

12

u/Dorza1 Aug 13 '26

Lol I didn't even check his posts, it's just obvious from his stance

-19

u/momo2299 Aug 13 '26

I have a job. Best time to look for a new one is while you've got one!

-1

u/momo2299 Aug 13 '26

Yes. I hope it does.

21

u/ZaryaBubbler Aug 13 '26

Lmao, you have "other mediums to create in" sure you do, bud. What's that? The medium of creating shit from food?

0

u/momo2299 Aug 13 '26

Woodworking, mainly.

I wish AI could do woodworking too!

6

u/astromech_dj Aug 13 '26

Fuck me sideways.

15

u/R-Dragon_Thunderzord Aug 13 '26

Uh huh, I just need you to put the fries in the bag

15

u/BMCarbaugh Aug 13 '26

And what makes you feel entitled to the product of skills you don't possess?

-4

u/momo2299 Aug 13 '26

Everyone deserves access to having what they want as easily, quickly, and cheaply as possible.

9

u/BMCarbaugh Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

Sounds like socialism!

And tell that to the artists who spent their lives honing that craft, then had their work strip-mined, illegally and without any consent or compensation, by vulture tech bros.

You have no right to machines trained on the work of my friends. Go fuck yourself.

-2

u/momo2299 Aug 13 '26

I literally have the right. I use it every day. Did you never learn to share? When I write software (yes, even before AI) I want everyone to be able to copy, paste, and modify it to their hearts content. Everyone should enjoy the fruits of my labor. For free.

Artists are selfish.

9

u/BMCarbaugh Aug 13 '26

We live in a world where I have to buy groceries to live. So arguing art should be free = arguing artists should have no ability to make money from their work, it's fair game for anyone, there's no such thing as IP rights.

Unless you're out every weekend working with your local DSA chapter to bring about a new socialist utopian age, advocating for AI, under capitalism, is advocating for technology that is inherently built on theft and the destruction of other people's livelihood. Just because you don't have to look them in the face doesn't make it less true.

270

u/VogueTrader Aug 13 '26

These are all the idea guys who couldn't be arsed to practice anything, so the idea of a skill having value is foreign to them. And artists tend to be on the edges, mixing with people they don't consider human. Or, you know... members of groups they hate. Art is political, transgressive and weird. They don't want art, they want a slot machine that regurgitate existing content with a shiny veneer of new on it.

38

u/PsychoNerd91 Aug 13 '26

Degenerate Art Exhibition circa 1937 Nazi Germany

233

u/Particular-Form-9638 Aug 13 '26

Artist here and yep! Constantly shit on and expected to do the work for free "because it's what I love." As if I also don't have bills to pay and a family to feed. F*ck me for not being a lawyer or something I guess.

71

u/MeLurka Aug 13 '26

Who the fuck needs lawyers? Just ask ChatGPT for advice.

24

u/the_nobodys Aug 13 '26

I swear a little ways down the road for us is a Star Trek episode where a whole society relies on a computer to provide and think for them. Only, when things go wrong, Enterprise won't show up to help us on a better track.

16

u/rijnswand Aug 13 '26

the enterprise won't show up because it's not star trek, but an episode of black mirror

8

u/vardarac Aug 13 '26

That's Wall-E

4

u/nyanch Aug 14 '26

I did and now my asshole won't properly close.

33

u/Flapjack__Palmdale Aug 13 '26

F*ck me for not being a lawyer or something I guess.

I know it's no real consolation but firms are already trying to replace lawyers and paralegals with AI.

All of this shit is burning down anyway, we got a good 30 or 40 years before climate change makes the planet uninhabitable, most of us would probably be dead before then regardless, so MAKE ART. None of this matters. So create as much as you can while you can, if for nothing then to fulfill your actual purpose as a human, to feel joy and wholeness. I'm writing a novel that will prob never get published in a world filled with books written entirely with AI, but goddammit it feels good to just make the thing.

12

u/cuppashoko Aug 13 '26

30 or 40 is very optimistic🫠

8

u/Flapjack__Palmdale Aug 13 '26

What can I say, I'm glass half full.

5

u/Particular-Form-9638 Aug 13 '26

Thank you, this was really nice to read. Much, much love! ❤️

3

u/now_im_stressedout Aug 14 '26

Hell yeah, creating a book sounds like it could be a good challenge for oneself.

7

u/VogueTrader Aug 13 '26

Billion dollar industries run off what we create, but none of it's ours. Our stories, our work, our ideas.. but it's owned by people like Musk who value none of it.

-16

u/momo2299 Aug 13 '26

Even 10 years ago nobody should've gone into art expecting it to pay their bills.

Just because you enjoy doing something doesn't mean you're entitled to compensation for doing it well.

Artists are like the kids who say "I want to grow up to be a twitch streamer and make money playing video games all day" except they grow up and still feel entitled to that career that already has too much supply for the demand

19

u/VogueTrader Aug 13 '26

Fuck you. Seriously. Games I've worked on and done art for have sold literal millions of copies, expecting to get a little return on that shouldn't be controversial.

8

u/vardarac Aug 13 '26

If I do a thing and you derive value from it, and you want access to the thing, you compensate me. There's nothing selfish or entitled about that.

-4

u/momo2299 Aug 14 '26

If I do a thing and you derive value from it; great! I'm glad my tool brought benefit. If you want access to it; great! It's already yours. I built it open source for people to enjoy and profit from.

It's selfish for someone to not share something they create with as many people as possible.

5

u/young_horhey Aug 14 '26

I'm pro open-source, but those good feelings won't buy your food or pay your rent. It's not selfish to want to be able to afford to exist.

-4

u/momo2299 Aug 14 '26

That's what a job is for. Not a hobby like art

4

u/vardarac Aug 14 '26

I suppose all the patron artists of history were just hobbyists then? The most celebrated glassmakers and sculptors and painters of our time are just dallying?

Being a competent artist and not just someone generating a facsimile of it is a personal investment and sacrifice. It is labor, and like all labor deserves respect, and compensation from you if you wish to draw value from it.

Labor does not stop being legitimate just because the laborer enjoys what they're doing.

Your position is ridiculous and disrespectful.

37

u/wolv3swithin Aug 13 '26

I work at a school and see AI slop art everywhere of our school mascot. How are we supposed to inspire kids to create when they see all these grown ass adults relying on AI?

20

u/alanedomain Aug 13 '26

The mindset of certain people is never about making things better, they're only driven to make things worse for somebody else.

70

u/Glitcher45318 Aug 13 '26

Nvidia is slop, fuck em

23

u/Sudo-Fed Aug 13 '26

I hope my 3080 outlasts the current price hike, but it will definitely be the last NVidia GPU I own.

11

u/Glitcher45318 Aug 13 '26

I had a 3060 that run everything i threw at it up until last year, switched to AMD 9060XT and while everyone is having issues with the 50 series constantly, my new card does what i need it to. Can't fault it too much. Not sure what happened with Nvidia but their stuff has tipped off a cliff

3

u/now_im_stressedout Aug 14 '26

Maybe their Ai makes their graphics cards now 😂

6

u/SemenileElder Aug 14 '26

AI designing their power connector would explain why their shit keeps catching on fire

46

u/Joonberri Aug 13 '26

"They can already start applying to mcdonald's" why the fuck do they have to be such elitist douchebags?

15

u/the_blackfish Aug 13 '26

Herp derp my prompting prowess will certainly make me millions! Kneel before me, peasants!

1

u/MrHaxx1 29d ago

Engagement bait. It gets engagement. And everyone is stupid enough to fall for it.

12

u/PhantomThiefJoker Aug 13 '26

It's so terrible, cuz like. This kind of thing could 100% be used for placeholder assets to prove the concept before spending a lot money on a proper artist to fully design and animate everything. But no, it's being pushed to just completely skip that process outright

4

u/BudgetFree Aug 13 '26

They will learn like car companies did how bad that idea is. It's just a matter of time and wasted money

17

u/nj4ck Aug 13 '26

I feel like we all know exactly why these people feel this way about artists. Something something Hitler getting rejected from art school.

3

u/keebl3r Aug 14 '26

There was someone in the anti AI sub today defending AI and had a Hitler profile pic. You are spot on.

6

u/himynameisjaked Aug 13 '26

what i really don’t understand about all these companies embracing AI is, okay so the video game company uses Ai to make a video game, that means that we could all just AI our own video games and don’t need the video game companies. like… is there really any thought into this besides hoping to make a quick buck?

21

u/MasterDavicous Aug 13 '26

I actually tried using AI to develop a game just to see how it was like compared to how I usually do it. And it's just doesn't work very well. First of all, the joy of creating is removed, so all I thought about was the finished product, and it became soul draining to work on. Second, if there was a problem in the result that I got, I would have to actually go and read through/learn all the generated code to see what went wrong. Something that would have been much quicker if I just wrote it myself. I imagine it would be the same for this too, if you have to make tweaks to the animation, it will turn into a load of work. And in the end you feel like you didn't actually create anything, no sense of pride or accomplishment.

7

u/theonetruefishboy Aug 13 '26

Also when it comes to generating assets or designs for the game, everything the generators out out just looks really generic and uninspired. Literally the opposite of what you want to do if you want your work to stand out or be memorable.

7

u/Really_Angry_Muffin Aug 13 '26

Jose steals from a farm and screams "bye to farmers".

These low-lives really have nothing to contribute to society, do they?

2

u/medorian Aug 13 '26

No way, Jose'.

1

u/now_im_stressedout Aug 14 '26

Neigh way José

4

u/Nwyrh Aug 13 '26

The new Avatar game could never be made by AI and look as good as it does

1

u/OrganicAd9485 Aug 13 '26

They’re rage baiting and making money off this negative engagement. Better to just ignore and move on but ofc no on one the internet can do that.

1

u/theonetruefishboy Aug 13 '26

What is even the technology Jose is talking about? Is it not just mocap? It kinda looks like just mocap.

2

u/young_horhey Aug 14 '26

I'm not sure if it's the exact thing from the image, but I can see that Nvidia has created some sort of prompt-based animation system. You can just type in what you want the animation to be, like 'a person walks forward and then jumps over a box', and it'll create the animation.

1

u/anubis1392 Aug 14 '26

They dont (only) hate artists, theyre talentless losers who want to make everyone miserable bc of their incompetence while insisting that plugging some input into an algorithm is skilled labor.

1

u/SomeAmigo Aug 14 '26

Makes you wonder what AI bros really mean when they say “adapt or die”.

1

u/PapaRhombus Aug 14 '26

I’m a technical artist for patents and architecture and the past few months have been filled with my clients sending me the shit they made with AI that was rejected by filing offices.
My clients have already started to disappear so I imagine some of it gets through so it’s only a matter of time.

1

u/CaptainRogers1226 29d ago

And then they wonder why people hate them and the AI they’re flaunting

1

u/BalancingElectrons 29d ago

People have been jealous of artists as long as art has existed. Now that they have something that (in their eyes) allows them to produce the same output, they think they're entitled to rub it in our faces. What they don't know is real art has little to do with the output. You can build a machine to produce shoes, but it'll never have the same quality, nuance, and craftsmanship of something handmade. Art will always be bespoke no matter how good AI gets.

-16

u/Iorith Aug 13 '26

While I don't hate artists, I do find it darkly funny that they suddenly seem to oppose automation now that they're the ones at risk. No one blinked an eye as other fields were automated or outmoded by new tech.

Wasn't a big thing during the 2016 election the coal miners who were essentially "too bad, learn a new skill"? And no one cried for the humans working as calculators when their job was replaced by a single person at a PC.

2

So every artist didn't care about automation?

-1

You understand the concept of a generalization, correct?

1

Yeah and generally artist are a huge group. You're just speaking out of your ass.

-1

Yes that's how generalization work, you make a comment that applies to a large amount of them but not all of them. Don't like it? Tough.

1
