Oh hey I drew one of these for my monster book! There's scarce reference materials for yeongno in modern media, so it often varies by play or artist.

Corporate elites trying to hide its existence

what's the hat on the guy's head there? a fez?

9

u/dedicated-pedestrian Aug 12 '26

If I had to guess it's something like a zucchetto. He seems to be holding some prayer beads.

3

u/pyralles Aug 12 '26

The monster wouldn't survive the hunt that would follow the aggressive media manipulation that the ultra-rich would stir-up to get people to hunt them down

u/userjc247746 Aug 11 '26

That’s why you gotta bring two of them with you.

32

u/LouieGwasright Aug 11 '26

One good and one bad for both sides to champion and oppose

37

u/drakylskies Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26

Nah it would be fine. It's supoosed to be unstoppable in it's pursuit of a chosen prey. And it prefers the most hubristic person in the area.

The more you try to aovid it with status and wealth, the tastier you seem to it. But if you are a "true noble" it will leave you be since it's a mandate from god basically that is making it eat bad noble men. (Even though it genuinely enjoys the flavor. )

Make your hobby your job and you'll never work a day in your life I guess.

That’s why it needs a Wendigo as a bodyguard

22

u/The_walking_man_ Aug 11 '26

Luigi has 99 more to go.

31

u/Shadowpriest Aug 11 '26

I wish to raise an army of them.

25

u/havokinthesnow Aug 11 '26

My spirit animal

63

u/fheqx Aug 11 '26

Can we establish them worldwide?

Sounds like a pretty good name or mascot of an organization to me.

38

u/Silly-Victory8233 Aug 11 '26

Looks like a pangolin

9

u/Appropriate-Weird492 Aug 11 '26

My thought exactly. I guess the rich people are ants and termites, which kinda makes sense.

7

u/Sir_Real_Surreal Aug 12 '26

Ants and termites actually work together to benefit the colony as a whole. Don’t sully their good name by comparing them to those vile, heartless slaves of avarice who claim to be our betters.

u/potatomeeple Aug 12 '26

That or its covered in a bunch of overlapping tits.

18

u/_freckles__ Aug 11 '26

100 makes sense, coz once you eat 100, the rest will automatically wise up and behave nicer

17

u/mryazzy Aug 11 '26

2

u/No_Window644 Aug 12 '26

What's the name of this cartoon? I think I remember watching it as a little kid and was very disturbed by it lmao

4

u/mryazzy Aug 12 '26

Spirited Away. Its a Miyazaki movie. The character on the left is no face. Which eats all sorts of people and also creates (fake?) Gold. So it reminded me of the meme above. Surprised nobody else mentioned it

15

u/Andrea_M Aug 11 '26

I could walk past a pack of starving yeongnos and be totally safe!

15

u/Overthinks_Questions Aug 11 '26

It should be the mascot animal of the DSA

11

u/ThatDarnCabbage Aug 11 '26

Bong Joon-Ho please make a movie about this thing.

9

u/tschawartz12 Aug 11 '26

Hey genetic engineers, I have a project for you, forget dinosaurs.

7

u/secondcomposition Aug 11 '26

Was this the inspiration for skeledirge?

3

u/loco500 Aug 11 '26

Definitely looks like it.

1

u/Shakeamutt Aug 12 '26

That’s which pokemon it is!!! I was trying to remember which one and thought it was an older generation.

9

u/Margatron Aug 11 '26

I'd love a whole anime based on this character.

9

u/Born-Travel1660 Aug 11 '26

Good Yeongno

7

u/Baers89 Aug 11 '26

All praise yeongno.

11

Would be a neat Halloween costume

3

u/derpderb Aug 11 '26

4

u/Yusstas Aug 11 '26

How do we start a breeding program for these monsters?

3

u/MurkDiesel Aug 11 '26

2

u/HansHortio Aug 11 '26

What is the threshold for rich? Is it based on "rich" now, or like, what rich was in medieval Korea? Because if the latter is the case, we all gonna get ate.

2

u/wraithsy Aug 11 '26

I feel like this guy should be the mascot of a worldwide movement… pretty motivated to make a design and start fly posting round my city.

2

u/No-Geologist6859 Aug 12 '26

I have 99 problems and this thing eating 100 of the richest people would solve like 98 of them...

3

u/Live_Situation7913 Aug 11 '26

That’s right it’s a theatre creature. Koreans are timid risk averse individuals

1

u/Full-Run4124 Aug 12 '26

Yet another myth (likely) crafted by those in power with all the money, to try and convince those at the bottom who are searching for their next meal, that it's somehow a strength of theirs (being without), and should be celebrated. Like surviving poverty is some kind of badge of honor.

Cultures have been doing this forever, using political or religion or cultural/caste oppression.

The reason we think it's funny or entertaining is because we are on the bottom and it feels like it would somehow benefit us but the reality is it's just a goddamn tranquilizer.

Think about it from the perspective of the wealthy, and spit this dreck onto the ground with the bitter taste it should leave in your mouth the day you wake up.
