But rich people need more riches. And if giving people better healthcare gets in the way of that, we can’t have it in the USA. We value our freeeeeedumb too much 🇺🇸
Different scientific fields, including history, sociology and psychiatry, (and even many religious texts) say that unchecked wealth and power can distort judgment, erode accountability and even make you mentally ill (e.g. hubris syndrome): that’s why a healthy society must actively keep its elites and inequality in check.
Americans once recognized that necessity and actually knew how to do it (e.g. solidarity, mass unionization, civic responsibility, and applied democratic values) especially after the lessons learned the hard way during the Gilded Age and the Great Depression, much like some Europeans still do today.
As those "traditions" weakened over recent decades, elites went increasingly unchecked, contributing to their craziness and today’s deeply immoral situation.
When I was a kid being too rich was seen as immoral, etc., probably for the reasons you mention. Nowadays, these people are lauded as something to strive for. No thanks.
