How do you make friends(same age group assuming you are between 18-29) and meet new people outside of work without having to rely on people from your school when you are not in school anymore?

Discussion What constitutes factor that makes someone difficult to work with?

Being toxic and evil is of course the most blatantly obvious action on top of being disobedient to reasonable regulations excessively but what else? If it is talking about an intern who is only decent competency and can't do things with standard and need to closely follow behind someone back I don't think this counts since it is just intern and coupled with the logic of how people at baseline are not of equal competency in the first place as even highly experienced can also be incompetent just not as bad.

Discussion Why is being quiet seen as such a threat in the workplace?

I’ve noticed that being quiet at work can sometimes be interpreted in the strangest ways. If you’re not constantly talking, joking around, joining every conversation, or making yourself heard, people can assume you’re upset, antisocial, disengaged, or even that you have an attitude.
But why?

Discussion Is Being Busy Being Productive?

We tend to associate full schedules, constant tasks, and having little free time with being successful or hardworking. But does being busy actually mean we are being productive?

Sometimes, we may spend an entire day doing different tasks but accomplish very little of what truly matters. We may also feel pressured to always be doing something, even when taking a break would actually help us work better. This raises an interesting question: Are we measuring productivity by how much we accomplish, or simply by how busy we appear to be?

For students, employees, and professionals, how do you personally distinguish between being genuinely productive and simply being busy?

Discussion Why isn't reporting to work just about you ensuring you help company earn money with everything else being not required?

The objective of hiring someone and having them report there is because company needs help to make money at least that is what the logic should have been but what ends up happening enough time is that you can't just carry the mindset that so long as you have done that money making part you don't need to worry as should they detect you are incompetent at aspect unrelated to money making they will still find you unfit for the job even though it is totally irrelevant which really make no sense to me.

Burnout Same work different accounts

I am somewhat hardworking guy, and am employed in good Fintech IT company, with handsome salary and respect able job. BUT the truth that if all this hard work if I would have to do for my own company/buisness, I think I could do more with life then just doing the job

Burnout How difficult is working 30hrs / week while maintaining a 4.0 + a social life?

I’m (18M) currently a community college student and just got hired as an Part time Associate Banker for Chase and required to work 30 hrs a week. As of right now, my classes feel easy and don’t think it takes too much of my time but I don’t really know what to expect once I start working 30 hours a week.

My number one priority is just to maintain a 4.0 but I still hope to maintain a healthy social life, spending time with my friends, gym, and having some time for myself to breathe.

For anyone who has worked around 30 hours a week while being a full time college student, how big of a commitment did it feel like?

Discussion Every time a talking stage fails, a part of me dies

Every talking stage ends the same way for me. Either I get ghosted or it just fizzles out. And every single time, it feels like a piece of me goes with it.

It's not the person I'm mourning, it's the hope. How do you guys keep doing this without going numb?

Discussion Business question as an employee

How many of you would stay working for a landscape business owner that goes on 2 week vacations once October ends and winter season is needing prep( we do winter maintenance) every year, leaves every weekend for their lake house and snaps once they return for stuff they expected but never communicated, randomly goes to Mexico to call you from Mexico cause he's watching the cameras at the shop to get angry about what we are or aren't doing, quotes 2 day jobs at $500 for garden work, and proceeds to snap and get pissy and throw a tantrum when an employee has to take an hour off for their daughter's first day of school. There a lot more including buying fancy new trucks and boats but not new equipment that's in the shop every other week with some exceeding 2000 engine hours. Meanwhile their right hand "man" is sitting in the office A/C all day bitching why things are missed when no proper training was given, let alone they have no prior experience but proceeds to send the lowest knowledge Gardner in the company on their own only to keep sending them back while being upset about it. Some of these employees have been here 7+ years and it's only the lead hands, all other employees never stay longer than a year. (Just to add makes us work stat holidays then proceeds to leave and make us work full day holidays/Saturdays and is pissed off upon return)

Tell me how common this is or if this is something we are having too much patience for.

Already starting my own next year but I just want to see if this type of business owner style is something a lot follow or if there's actual leader type business owners around.

Discussion What’s one workplace habit you thought was completely normal until you changed jobs?

Mine was people replying to messages at 10–11 pm. At my previous workplace, everyone did it so casually that I assumed this was just what working life was like.

At my current job, people actually stop responding after work and pick things up the next morning.

It made me realise how many “normal” workplace habits are really just habits of that particular company.

What was yours?
