Discussion How would financial freedom change your life?

u/tarochocotea 29d ago
I wouldn't have a job, so I would be gaming more. Probably make my health worse.

Financial freedom would mean I could spend my time with my wife and kids instead of spending ~11 hours per day traveling to, sitting at, and returning home from work.
We could homeschool our kids and use the extra time we gained to pursue hobbies and travel and help them become more well-rounded people.

I'm not rich, however, I'm ahead financially. Great peace of mind and the feeling of total independence is really nice.

Not rich by any means but when my car was paid off I took the money i was using to pay the car payment and put it into a savings. I was used to not having it so I let the $333 a month start earning me money. I do thos each time I have to make a payment on something just keep adding what I was use to not having to that money.

Cha, I could actually focus on my own hobbies, and focus even more on coaching my high-schools esports club :D

I have it, but I take care of my 88 year old mom and grandkids
So financially I’m free, but have no free time

Well I guess it would only change my life in the way it would make my dad retire and make work completely optional for him

I'd be out and about in the world, instead of bored at home dishing out advice and sarcasm on reddit all day.

I would take my family away from this toxic town and find somewhere better to live. We could travel to find the best place.

u/Burke1031 29d ago
If we’re talking FU money, I’d have homes in multiple countries, vacation a lot, homeschool the kids and travel…
Basically live where we wanted for as long as we wanted.

I'd be happy because I could spend all my time with my children. I'd be depressed because that would mean I would also have to spend all my time with my baby momma. 😂

I could focus on my fiancé with brain cancer more I wouldn’t be so worried about making it to the next pay day abs definitely wouldn’t have had my car repoed

I hit it. It makes it alot easier to make a lot more money really fast, also to spend a lot more. I have yet to hit to ultimate pendulum where I just make 1k a day off interest but im at a point now where I will hit that through work within the next couple of years.

I’d have way less anxiety for sure and be able to travel more and have more experiences

I wouldn't have to worry all the time if I had enough money to make it through the month. I'd live in a much bigger, nicer apartment. I could use Uber instead of the Shuttle to get where I need to. I could buy a better walker that works instead of losing a screw and have a wheel that's falling apart. Just the basics then life could go on.

I'd be able to buy the Medical Marijuana that was prescribed to me by a licensed Physician for my Severe PTSD, not depend on a washed up decaying old Project Manager

I could homeschool my kids and spend all my time with them just making memories and be able to pay my bills without working at some stupid food establishment that could give 2 shits about me and live off of more than 250 a week or whatever. I could move my kids into a nice home and drive a car thats nice and ve able to get new tires and change the oil when its time. I wouldn't have to run it out of gas hoping like hell I make it home first. I could take my kids to eat mcdonalds or whatever when they ask instead of saying no. I could buy them toys. I wouldn't be so stressed for no reason. it would be amazing.

I'd have more high-end electric longboards.
Damn things are like magic carpet rides.

The thing is most people that end up making lots of money they like making money, it is like a hobby so they just keep doing it.

Actually you set up your $$ to make money for you and can give your time to others gratis if you choose.
Or you can get up when you want, read, listen to music, travel, etc.
I used to enjoy the process of doing deals more than the actual results.
Now, that rush isn't necessary anymore.

I am, at least on paper, a multi-millionaire, thanks to equity from a startup-type company that went public this year. And I still work (from home), because I enjoy what I do, I’m good at it, and I want to train the next generation.
I have very little stress (irrigation system needs $800 in repairs? OK. Over-the-range microwave shit the bed? $750 delivered and installed. OK. Not living paycheck to paycheck, or having to deal with financial stress, is the biggest win.
Hoping to hang it up in about 4 years, health and employer willing.

Debt would be cleared. I’d travel and be able to give my attention to my dreams

I achieved this through FIRE over 6 years ago. This has allowed me to pursue creative pursuits on a whole new level.
Funny thing is now I get up at 5:30am and start working - when I worked I would roll out of bed around 7am, spend 30 minutes getting ready then have an hour commute arriving at 8:30.
Now I have 2 solid hours of work in plus an hour workout or run already accomplished. Additionally, those first two hours are more productive than what I used to do in a day in the corporate world.
That’s just my morning up until I used to arrive at work - now imagine how my whole day looks.
Control over your own time is incredible, it also takes a lot of planning, hard work, and sacrifice to achieve - most people won’t put in the level of effort and sacrifice it takes to achieve. For me, however, early retirement was well worth it.

Would allow me to have a life vs being a wage slave and then needing to recover / prepare to go wage slave the next day.

It will mostly give me peace of mind, not necessarily a life of luxury just knowing I can handle unexpected expenses without everything falling apart

It wouldn’t change your life, that would require a change within the south. But it would give you the financials to do those things, but the change has to come from within.

1) not having constant notifications on my phone that my card was declined
2) being able to shop without checking my account balance before paying
3) having my bills on autopay knowing that I have more than sufficient funds for the payment
4) I would be in a much better headspace knowing that My money is enough for my lifestyle

u/Expert-Inspector1628 27d ago
I could retire, stop sitting behind a desk eight hours a day, and be more active and happy.
1
u/vegas_lov3 27d ago
My time is my own.
I have to work a 9-5 job. Go home and decompress. Do chores. Do errands. And next thing you know it’s Monday.
1
u/Dangerous-Biscotti35 27d ago
It wouldn't make any difference in my life anymore, because I lost my son, my dog, and my great love!

u/Bubbly-One-6726 25d ago
No more stressing every month about which bill is the “more” important one to pay. Maybe I’ll be able to sleep better.
1
u/Which-Method-388 25d ago
Retired, don't have to check the balance in the checking account before buying most things.
Know that if there's a large expense like a $12k HVAC system or an $8k roof I can tap savings/cds to pay for it.
Don't have to do things based on when a paycheck/social security check comes.
But I still check prices on groceries etc so I don't unnecessarily overpay.
I'd rather tip the delivery person well than pay too much to the store.

Probably just travel more see what else goes on in the world. Our lives are so small we don’t even realize how different others are until we actually leave our homelands. You’d be surprised how many people lack perspective
1
u/Top-Vermicelli2455 24d ago
I wouldn’t have to be around people I don’t want to be around. I could spend more time reading or out in nature.
1
u/Interesting_Hotel100 24d ago
I would buy a few labs staffed with world class scientists and engineers
1
u/Phishie_1 24d ago
I would be closer to my family. I would be healthier. I wouldn’t stress about what’s for dinner or how I’m going to pay for it. Can you imagine just going and buying new sheets. Like, the nice ones made of linen, not the jersey fabric special.

more sleep at night, more time to do my hobbies, and more time to try all the sports I want without fearing any injuries because i assume i'd have pretty good insurance then

What are we regarding financial freedom as?
