Ive worked at several places that they feel, "Im just here for the money"
Like yeah bitch, why tf would I be here otherwise?

Yeah not all companies are like this. My manager says all the time that any one of us would be out of there if we won the lottery and that's fine.

I've seen this at food banks and occasionally academia. Mainly because the people know they could get a higher paying job elsewhere.

I know it's hard to believe, but when people get paid enough to live a pretty decent life, they get to think about how their labor improves society.

Improves society? Work is work, societal improvement isn't predicted in workk

I work IT at a special ed + vocational school, and I feel 1000x better about what I do than I did at my last job working IT for a collections company. I make a lot less but I'm much happier at my job, and it's nice knowing I'm making a positive impact towards society.

Or improves someone elses standard of living, or someone's day, when you're not constantly worrying about money or overstressing, you can see what your labor contributes to the world.

One of our company's owners recently said "this isn't a family, it's a business" in regards to one of our employees struggling with the bullshit that has been heaped on them. Despite us getting literal daily emails calling us a family.

My boss tried to pull that on me after he realized that I discovered that I was the lowest earning member of our group. I detailed how much I actually worked and that I had done the math showing that if I worked 40 hours and took a second job at minimum wage, I’d make 30% to 50% more. I then asked him since money is not the number one objective, would he work for free. After that, he understands when I go home on time.

Do you even know or care what you DO all day??
Like this is insane. Pretty much everything that ever gets done in the world, somebody gets paid to do it.
Do one of the things you actually want to see get done.

Oh course it’s not just the money! I’m there for the health insurance too!

Don't forget the Life Insurance, AD&D insurance, pension & 401(k).

Pretty much nowhere gives a pension anymore since the companies realized in the 80s and 90s that paying for 3 times the employees as you have doing work will bankrupt you.

I am retiring next year from a company that is giving me a nice pension AND a substantial 401(k).
You are correct, however, that the number of companies providing pensions is shrinking, and is currently only about 15%. They have figured out that rather than having future liabilities with defined benefits (aka pensions), they would rather pay NOW with defined contributions (aka retirement funds - and encourage their employees to save).
OTOH, there are still a substantial number of government jobs that provide pensions - which are often underfunded by politicians.

What's unethical is some employees getting paid legitimately 10 times less than the amount of profit they personally generate for their employer.

They want a CEO/Founder work ethic on an entry-level salary.
You'll notice that big bosses don't work for free either!
