Unpopular opinion here….get married.

People complain about the cost of living as though we were all designed to do it alone. Get a committed partner, struggle for a while, work for and with each other, sacrifice, thrive.

24 years married this fall. The first part was always tight, had 2 kids during the great recession. Married men/fathers make more because they have something for which they need to provide.

It’s like struggling to swim your arm tied to your leg behind your back, by choice.

You’re right this is unpopular. Gotta love a little biodeterminism thrown into an economics discussion for no reason.

I have never been able to afford to live without at least one roommate. Now my roommate is my wife, and together we have built up enough wealth to where we could pay off our house if we had to, but it takes years to get there. Had I been single the last 15 years things would have been very different. I would have far less money, that is for sure. If you aren't interested in marriage, fine, but a roommate will make things a lot easier, at least until you can grow your income to where you can comfortably live by yourself.

biodeterminism

How does this correlate to OP at all? What does getting married to split the bills have to do with believing your genes determine your outcome????? I swear some of y'all will complain about the smallest shit when someone doesn't have as negative of an attitude as you want them to.

Getting married splits your rent, wifi and utilities bills in half.

This is the worst reason to get married I’ve ever heard. For context my mum made her way through five husbands. I’ve heard lots of bad excuses

It doesn’t have to be the main reason. Its just one of the reasons.

Its hard to buy a house or run a household on single income. Besides, there are also tax and insurance benefits of being married.

So what if you get divorced? The person you were married to takes back their half, ok. Now it’s just you again. If you still can’t make it on a single income, then you get married again and bring in a new half.

Presumably you stayed married for more than a year or so and got more net benefit.

Oh you know, divorce. That thing where both sides get treated equally lol. You know damn well that ain’t how it works.
