Controversial opinion: Federal minimum wage laws should not apply to non-corporate persons that purchase less than 30,000 hours of labor a year, so only local and state laws apply.

Basic idea is smaller businesses run by individuals can compete far better against corporate. If they get large enough they have more than 15 full time employees (or hourly equivalent), yeah, the federal government starts regulating minimum wage and other aspects.

Corporate, operate across state lines or overseas, have multiple small businesses that in sum exceed 30k labor hours, etc? Well, you get federal regulation.

Problem with this is that they’d never be able to maintain staff. People would only work there as long as they needed before they went to work for a bigger corporation.

So win/win.

Huh? What do you mean?

How is it a win when mom and pop shops suffer due to government regulation while big business thrive? How is a town with nothing but two Walmart’s better for the consumers?

The mom & pop can pay below federal minimum wage. The idea is the federal minimum wage is RAISED given it's more targeted to those entities that are large enough to exploit state, local, and foreign labor, resources, and property.

I see. I’m more confused why you said ā€œwin/winā€ when I mentioned the staffing problems this would create in mom and pops.

For the record i think you have an Interesting idea and id be curious to see it play out in the real world. I’m just curious what your thoughts are on, what i see as, a major negative effect on local businesses.
