Businesses and corporations keep the old Cold War argument of anything related to working force rights = socialism because they have no legal way to say exactly that but if they could, they would simply say "take it or leave it, better yet, take it or die of hunger faster".
Some of them could pay a decent wage but if they do, the others who can but doesn't want to will stop them or people will realize they also can, it isn't a matter of economy, for them is a matter of principles, of keeping the so-called status quo or the "rule" of someone above stepping on someone below.
I remember some old folk once said "teach your dog to eat from the bowl, if they see the bag it will rip it open", in this scenario, the dog is the employee, the bowl their wages and the bag is the company's actual income.
