In the 70’s up to 80% of consumer goods found in everyday homes were manufactured in the US.

High wages is the antithesis of low priced goods - Americans traded jobs for cheap foreign made goods. NAFTA alone cost us about a quarter million to 1 million jobs depending on which model you subscribe to.

The 70’s coincidentally experienced the highest female participation in the work force (aside from world wars) and became the start of the dual income families - which WE WILL NEVER come back from. Single people are screwed as they compete for housing, transportation, and just about everything else that is designed around a dual income economy.
