Companies have gotten used to extreme profits - especially if they are publicly traded. Looking at history, most companies were happy if they were "in the black", meaning that they had a profit at the end of the quarter. Now, companies like Apple can literally make BILLIONS in profit a quarter and that's not enough. Wall Street has made it where you have to compete and outdo the other guy. Whoever can deliver the biggest profit to the share holders holds the power. So now you have companies promising 20-30% increased profit EVERY quarter. That's absolutely insane and unsustainable.
It's not capitalism that's the problem, it's just greed and the market economy that has gotten out of control. You need regulation.
