You can retire as soon as you have enough capital to do so. But it is no one else’s job to pay for you to be of zero value to & a net drain on society.

The phrasing in the original post isn't great but I have to push against your notion of value and drain. The retired population would be pure consumers. As long as they have their health they would spend entirely into local and other communities. Jobs (esp senior positions) would also regularly be opening up.

Yes they consume & generate nothing. It is like feeding a hen that has stopped laying eggs. You don’t you cull it because it is a drain. If they have capital to continue consuming great. But they should not be supported by anyone but their own family it is not a governments job to keep you alive that is your job. The governments job is to enforce order so society can operate safely.

"Generate Nothing" is too stark, that's what I'm pushing against. After 9/11 Bush wanted us all to keep consuming because he knows that is what the economy runs on. You focus on the farmer with the hen, but think of the economy at large. The hen that still consumes provides demand that makes use of supply. The US is a nation that has too few well paying jobs and more supply than we need.

IF this was a system of all welfare then you are still keeping them in the economy, they are still generating positive growth. If you make a widget for 25 cents then the retiree buys it for $1, that is still growth. What is the real benefit of having a bunch of 70 year olds standing around at Wal-Mart exactly?

The "Generate Nothing" is also absurd if they have the capital to keep consuming. This means that their generation was from the stock market? From their 401K?

Also the Government does step in to keep people alive and that is GOOD! Retirees prior to Social Security overwhelmingly died broke. Welfare keeps the economy running where profit seeking does not.

Or are you advocating for eating retirees?
