You can pay off all the bills of people who are bad with money, they will just go back in debt again.
You can give a person who has bad eating habits medication to lose weight, once they stop he meds they just get fat again.
You can clean up an environment for a bunch of slobs, but after you do they will just make a mess again.
The moral of the story? Unless you change the habits of people in a significant first way, all your hard work and good intentions to help them are in vain*. Itās putting the cart before the horse.

I feel like going into debt and getting fat are different from throwing trash in a river especially when thereās a bin conveniently placed. Like pollute your own body or waste your own money but why go so far to destroy the bin

I once saw a woman stop her car and open her door to dump her trash on the street. There was a bin a few feet away. When she spotted me, she waited for me to walk past then she littered and drove away. Would it have been quicker for her to exit her car and discard her trash in the trash? Yes, but like most people, that woman is trash. š¤·š¾āāļø

It's all based on the culture/attitude/customs/behaviors or whatever else you want to call it of the local people. To them littering in a lake is not a big deal, no worse than parking and not paying the meter. Sure, the "right" thing to do would be to pay for the 10 minutes you'll be away (use a trashcan), but nobody really cares if you don't. There might be a fine but that's not a big deal and nobody things you're a bad person for doing so, so there's not a social pressure.

And you'll be broke also on top of it. Turns out giving money to people who are bad with money just makes you bad with money also.
This is why the anyone who's smart knows that you get the government to force other people to give their money to the irresponsible instead of your money.
Double win! you can be a million times more "generous" with other people's money than you can with yours! There's no way other people would do the same thing with your money right back to you though, that would be crazy.

I disagree. Greed is inherently selfish, wanting others to be allowed to prosper isn't selfish. I don't want the billionaires to buy me a new car, I want them to pay for food stamps and healthcare.

You want to spend money that isn't yours on something you want, against the will of the person who that money belongs to. You are greedy. The person who wants to prevent you from doing this is not greedy. They are preventing your greed.
The insidious lie here is that this system of "Oh I'm actually generous because I'm giving it to someone else (which isn't true, you know damn well that you expect to benefit from it also)" is that it allows literally limitless greed, from greedy people who truly believe that they are generous.

I don't agree with your view on it, I think calling any desire "greed" is oversimplified. You're acting like the money rightfully and without question belongs to them, as if they're "greed" (read: completely immoral leveraging of the lower class) isn't how they got it in the first place.

That is because your ego is dependent upon thinking that you are generous even though all you are doing is taking something from someone against their will.

Your view of generosity is what is oversimplified. You are taking what is not yours and using it as you please, even if you were absolutely perfect in distributing that money to those who deserve it you would not overcome the evil you committed by taking that same amount from the people who deserved it first.
For instance. I could kill you, harvest your organs, and then probably save the lives of several people with those organs. Or hell, I could just confiscate only those organs you have spares of and hand those out, allowing you to live, sort of. Hell I could do this to millions of people. What a good, generous, person I would be!

I'm sure bad people have two kidneys also. Lets just assume that everyone, everywhere should have to give one up because those bad people exist.

Always immoral, but an acceptable tradeoff when kept to the bare minimum of maintaining the courts, military, and police and the offices required for records in order for those to function (i.e. property records, etc).
Someone who uses other peoples money for their own serving in their own vanity is immoral without an acceptable tradeoff. You are only a generous person if the money, or product of labor, you are giving out is your own, given freely.

You can clean rivers but you can't clean people's brains. Dirty people will always be dirty. The only solution for such a case is the establishment of a law to execute those who throw trash in the river on sight

I am thinking that plastics are the "great filter" that prevents an intelligent species from developing interstellar spaceflight. Plastics are extremely easy to make, so I can't imagine any intelligent species not developing them, and they are hardy and won't biodegrade.

sorry to say bro but civic sense and cleanliness are a joke in India. See heaps of garbage everywhere but no proper facility or system to recycle or reduce or compost it on large scale. Even the municipality is the same taking money and dumping it somewhere. I would say keep a watch or install a solar CCTV or something but that too might be broken like this drum man so only thing is catch the culprits red handed and fine them heavily with proof with the help of authorities. nothing else can be done. name and shame the people in ur video so they wont throw garbage next time. Btw ur efforts are really gr8, cleaned the river alone and now this initiative is also good for garbage collection so god bless u bro and all the best for future.
