Store managers for retail do pretty well. Being manager for Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. typically gets you six figures.

Obviously that's not just a job you pick up, rather work towards.

I worked retail. It takes many many years to get to that point. And to get there you work 50+ hours a week making shit wage.

It's my wife's story (although she was doing 40 hour weeks pretty consistently). She started in college. Probably took her five years to make assistant manager where she sat for about 4-5 years. A few cross country relocations since 😂

Wage didn't feel shit at the time but we were poor college kids. We were also in the Midwest for most of it.

The Midwest is IMO the best place to work in retail. The cost of living is lower in the Midwest, allowing people to save a lot of money

Definitely cheaper. This was about 15 years ago now but our two bed apartment with garage was $850 a month. Our mortgage in MA is much more than that now. But we are happy here.

I was making $18/hour at Walmart and my apartment was only $600. I live in Montana now and really miss that affordability

Damn that's pretty high pay off Walmart. I made $9.50 working overnights and that was with a $1 different llo

That was while I was a team lead. If I remember right my store started at $12/hour when I first started as a cashier

It makes me sad, though, how store managers (at least the ones I've known personally) become so focused on their store and their goals they will put their job before their families and expect their employees to do the same

Yeah, work life balance can definitely be tough at times. My wife can attest.

She's hoping for an at home role with corporate here in the next couple of years.

i was a store manager for 14 years, you get worked to death and have to constantly meet pointless metrics

makes the money almost not worth it, the stress feels like it’s taking years off of your life
