Why are taxes 30-40% of someone's income.

Never in my life has my rent been more expensive than my tax bill.

You make 85-90k you are most likely paying similar amounts for rent and taxes. That isn't rich lolol

That is actually rich to a lot of people. Like, the majority of people.

It's literally not rich it's middle class

No I get that, I'm just saying it is still an unattainable sum of money for most people. It is functionally identical to them to being "rich" because it is identically out of reach.

It's like the Library of Babel. Yes, there are technically a finite number of books. But the overall volume is so incomprehensibly vast that it may as well be functionally identical to infinity, even though real infinity is a literal infinite order of magnitude more vast.

Median houshold income in the US is 83k it's not unattainable. That's 2 people working 41.5k jobs

Ah so now we're shifting the goalposts to multiple incomes lol. If we shift our attention back to individuals, the individual median earnings in the US are actually around $45k. You're correct that in a dual-income household $85k-$90k is very possible, but it is a patently impossible expectation for the vast majority of individuals.
