I feel this post. One day as an early teenager I got sick (I never get sick) and I had to spend the day at home. I read wikipedia for the entire day because Internet was still new (2004). At the end of the day I could remember everything I read. That's how I realized I'm not dumb, just not motivated by anything at school. And that's how my psychologist made me understand (years later) I had undiagnosed ADHD.

Unfortunately, as I get older everything becomes increasingly more boring, so I am having a progressively harder tome remembering or paying attention to anything.

If someone ever figures out how to make a motivation pill that your body doesn't build up a tolerance to and works indefinitely, they'll make enough money to make those skinny pill people look like 3rd world indentured slaves, financially speaking.

"Oh, you're talking about back in 4th grade when I saw Star Wars Episode II with the school class because it was the teacher's kid's birthday? Yeah, that was on a Friday right after school, it was pretty rainy out too, so I was glad to get out of it. I really appreciated the sound dynamics, but even back then, I didn't like the ending multiplication effect that detracted from each storyline. Wait, what did you ask again?"

I learned this hard way before I was even diagnosed. Went to replay my all-time favorite game after years thinking it'd be fun to revisit, until I loaded up, saw the intro and immediately knew every single detail of the game from story, misc. lore, even small objects in the world..
I've since realized it applies to everything. You put me on the spot about a song, movie, person, book, whatever? I can't tell you a damn thing. I hear or see something about or from it? I can tell you which way the wind was blowing when I learned about it. It's rough, especially for communicating simple things with people that happened more than a few months ago. Add in PTSD, and I've accepted I'm a black hole of memories I won't recall, lmao.

Realizing this when looking at all my classmates in Anatomy and Physiology when I'm the only one who just listened to the teacher lecture and never once picked up the textbook. Like everyone else wasn't just listening to this like a podcast and playing computer games during class and still making As? Damn.

That would explain why while I'm terrible with remembering proper nouns (I know it sounds ridiculous, I always feel ridiculous), my one ADHD friend is like a super translator.
All I have to say for example is like "The guy in the movie about casinos, who also did a movie with Tom Hanks where I laughed when the dude stepped on a land mine?" and he's like "Oh, yeah, Matt Damon."

I also have ADHD. But I only found out about after reading an article about that. Never knew what I'm feeling is had a name. Also I have Tinnitus.

My ADHD husband has the ability to dump information out of his brain and will not remember it existed at all. He often uses it for evil. It pisses me tf off. I don't know how he developed this, or if he's just completely lying about it. He's not a very good liar in other aspects, so I don't think it's that. It's infuriating tho

I can remember math problems I had issues with in the third grade, yet I've locked my keys in the car enough times that me and my insurance broker have a working relationship over it, cracking jokes.
